First movie was good. The plot is efficient with no fat. No quirky quips or one liners, except "dodge this", a bit too much explaining, but it doesn't classify as "tell-no-show" because they do show you. Quite a lot of non-white characters, but of course all the villain roles and the female love interest are white. It's a great movie, but maybe wouldn't be the genre-defining movie it turned into if it wasn't for the stylized elements and the special effects which were amazing for the era. The futuristic theme with black leather clothes and sunglasses comes across quaint and 90's nowadays.The second movie wasn't nearly as good, but also wasn't terrible. Zion as depicted is kind of a sweaty, gross rave filled with brown people and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The Architect scene is very memorable and quotable, although the movie isn't clear about what exactly is happening so there's a bit of handwavey voodoo logic corrupting the narrative. The special effects don't hold up well at all, the fight scene with Smith looks really goofy. The secondary characters aren't nearly as memorable. The third movie was the worst. Neo was weak and felt pathetic. Smith's position in the plot was contrived to have a big goofy fight scene. The fight in Zion wasn't well thought out and although it has a cool factor it came across as a bit ridiculous as well. The ending was final, but also wasn't memorable. The romance plot doesn't have a good conclusion. Felt like this movie missed the mark in a lot more ways, but it's hard to even remember it since nobody watched it twice.
