>>534511651ive been to el salvador and it is a police state. military pattols on every block that can stop and frisk you for any reason. as a tourist i was stopped and frisked twice and the military stopped the bus i was on and searched everyones bags. it is safe though but drugs are hard to find and expensive when you do.

El Salvador is an incredibly small country with just a couple million living there with criminals that were openly recognizable thus easy to catch. On top of that crime went down BEFORE the giant prisons were built mostly by negotiating with gangs. This is why you don't hear anything good coming from El Salvador other than some fetishistic comments about big prisons.
