You've seen this shit, right? It's always a green lane, bollards and they have to sacrifice a lane. They will argue that it makes transportation so much more efficient.

Who's behind this? Every city in the western world has an anti car mafia, i don't believe in such synchronicity, are they all from the usual suspect tribe?

Who do you think decided this shit? Like it's a Iso norm or something? We even use it here in bum fuck nowhere Québec where the paint don't last 3 seasons and the stupid bollards gets in the way of snowplowing. It's beyond retardation and it goes beyond borders.
>>
>>534525192
My city tried this, and bicyclists ended up just using the regular lanes, and cars now routinely drive on the bicycle lanes so we kind just blew a shit ton of money for no reason

Single lanes of travel with dedicated turn and bike lanes are the best
More lanes isn't always the answer, calmer traffic actually flows more per hour

It started here about 10 years ago in Montreal. Every one hated it so they felt obliged to spread it to every leftist degenerate city. I got yelled at the other day when I parked my truck in the green cuck lane, i had to run a quick errand at a store... No wonder they are all closing with this shit, no cuckcycle will ever stop in front of an hardware store to buy some shit.

I even saw picrel last winter. I wish i could see one crash and slide under a car but that would imply anyone use them at all when it's cold as fuck outside and there are no niggers in sight.
>>
>>534526552
>more parking spaces
You mean, more homeless camping spots? You used to be able to park on the green line you moron. Nigger steal bikes, they dont actually commute on them.
>>
These are largely ineffective gestures, but they reflect the underlying reality that cars and cities don't mesh well. It's a physics problem. A car driven mostly by one person that needs a parking spot at each location the person travels to increases the amount of space the person requires to travel and to stay at a location tremendously. In rural areas where space is cheap and plentiful; like pretty much all of rural America; that isn't an issue. In a dense city, where space is at a premium, it's a huge problem. One that cities are mostly not addressing.

These threads are as ludicrous as they are common, since they're filled with Cannucks/Americans whining about planning for cities that they will also proudly state they would never live in and are only for bugs. Okay, so why do you care so much how it's laid out? And it's doubly ridiculous when you realize that all the complaints are about these mild token gestures that reflect maybe 1% of what city enjoyers actually want the city to look and operate like.

>>534526166
>Who do you think decided this shit?
Bicycle lanes largely come from demands from local activists who are mostly ignored. If you think there's some top-down desire for walkability, why don't we see any? What few efforts are taken to make cities more walkable and/or less car centric have been small, ineffectual and grudging. If you think I'm wrong, list some examples.

The city has to have the right equipment, but some cities are just retarded. I know a lot of Cali cities have the right equipment and generally do bikeshit right. My city just sweeps all its trash into the unprotected bike lanes lmao

Most design guidelines for protected bike lanes have a preferred width of 7' for that exact reason. Whereas an unprotected bike lane you can go as low as 4'

A 4' painted bike lane with not even a double buffer is just retarded on some 40 mph+ multi lane roads. You'd have to be insane or very skilled to bike on those. The green helps stand out because a lot of bike lanes just look like edge line insets
>>
Blue cities love bike lanes, it helps them reduce driving lanes, in a street that should have 3 lanes, you have 1 lane for bikes and 1 for bus. the logic goes that if you eliminate lanes you'll get more people to pay for the bus, because that's losing money like no tomorrow and they need more income to keep those running. Basically they invent fake problems to solve them and take money in the process. Blue corruption as a service.
>>
>>534526166
As far as "why bikes" in general, I'm more of a "maximize car efficiency and fuck everyone else" but working in this field has allowed me to see the other perspective.

Complete streets is just more economically efficient. Less crashes. Helps patronage at businesses. Reduced fuel demand = cheaper prices. No it shouldn't be implemented in BFE because ideology but yes it makes sense in some places.

Also, in some cases where you aren't saturated, a four lane road with no turn lanes is literally worse in every aspect than a three lane road with the center turn lane and bike lanes or on-street parking. Road diets are a gift from god. Look at the link I put in here

>>
>>534526399
This is not a blanket statement it entirely depends on your traffic volume
Four lanes has way more capacity than people realize though. America has a metric fuckton of empty 4ln roads. If you can, go 3 lanes
>>
>>534526399
>calmer traffic actually flows more per hour
Exactly. This is why I've pushed for the elimination of merge late zipper merging habits for over a decade. It's extremely selfish and is only appropriate for extremely urbanized corridors, not rural areas or low density highways.

I am whiter than you are and it breaks my heart to see what the parasites that live in dog feces and saliva have done to so many white people. Not only is the modern idea of dog ownership really disturbing, the parasite causes literal brain damage that makes people impacted by the parasite act irrationally about their pets (like you).

You are literally permanently brain damaged because you handle dog shit several times a day, let it sit in your yard, and incidentally expose yourself to dog saliva and whatnot.

My theory is that whatever is causing this brain damage evolved in those dog farms. Dog ownership was never like *this*.

Let's be fucking real, the only reason picrel is a thing is because it's impossible to own a car for city plebs due to lack of space, restrictive usage and excessive cost.

Anon, how have you and I come to the same conclusion? I've said for a while now that dog "people" are fucked in the head due to the parasites they get feom their filthy mutts. They're very, very screwed mentally, and most donr even kuje their mutts. I don't get it.

Not only would a sane person not live with 2+ (or just 1 really bad) barking, stinky, violent, slobbering, food stealing, pus and ahit in the house, destroy their belongings, break from the yard, vomit, attack people and pets, creature, but they would be able to admit how detrimental the things are; instead, they flail around getting super angry and either insult, bring cats into the convo, or get physical. I've met probably ~1,000 dog owbers and the majority scream and yell at their gross mutts, while apologizing profusely. I hear non stop horror stories from them.

Hell, the fact that so many take their dogs to places that they have no business taking them, abd getting offended if you tell them no pets allowed, shows how fucked and hollow their brain has becomw.

The feces goes in the gigantic potholes and I bike around them. I don't bike on any roads without bike lanes anymore because I've been pancaked by lifted white pickups 15 times.
But for real, my city has lots of off-road trails that go to all the important places, so 2/3rds of my biking is not even on roads. It would be hell if I lived in a suburb, though

Cars and cities mesh fine.
Bicyclists nowadays are usually just scofflaw assholes.
This is a film made in San Francisco in 1906,
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q5Nur642BU
I think there might be all of 3 or 4 bicyclists in the entire film, whereas the rest of the traffic is pedestrians walking, horse drawn carriages, horse drawn wagons delivering supplies, and street cars that I presume might have been electrically powered, and way more cars than might be expected since 1906 was before the Ford Model T came onto the market.
Practically all the traffic is being respectful of the other types.

I was doing that when i was a kid/teen. Im not a city folk so i also used a snowmobile and a dunebuggy when i could afford the tinkering. Even in the city you feel miserable using anything but a car during the winter. Walking on ice and on dirty slush is degrading, not even talking about freezing your balls around for no good reason but to save car expenses.
>>
>>534526215
Yeah problem is bike lanes get rocks and shit thrown in them from the road and bike wheels are more delicate than car wheels. The road is clean and actually pretty much as safe as riding in a bike lane.
>>
>>534525192
They have fucked up a lot of roads locally, turning perfectly good 4-lanes with a turning lane in the middle to two-lanes, with parking and a bike lane on the side.
I guess it helps with parking, a little.

In the winter I pay taxis to drive me around. Including to and from work. It's like 10$ each way, and I work from home a lot of the time. It's not that bad once you start thinking about the gas, brushing your car off, having to drive in the snow, maintenance, shovelling....
I love snowstorms and it's fun to watch all the traffic get stuck. I've been thinking about getting a car recently and it only seems like negatives. Have to pay more, have to drive myself around, be expected to drive others around, be expected to drive around at work. No car is a great excuse to get out of a lot of shit actually.
It wouldn't be worth it without the taxis I'll admit. Walking gets real old in winter it's true. If I lived in a place where work, groceries, etc were further from my home, and the taxis were expensive. This wouldn't work. But I bought my house where I did specifically for good access to all this stuff, so it works for me.
>>
>>534526746
>Cars and cities don't mesh well
Because cities weren't and still aren't designed around cars
>Garage is always a separate building instead of being the bottom floor
>Most roads are either nonsensical grid bullshit with zero planning or old horse roads with zero planning, just scaled up
>There are no small slow streets into private courtyards, it's either the city with a 30mph speed limit or 55 on the highway
Everything is built by retards.
But also I think cars basically the size of golf carts should be standard inside cities because they're more maneuverable, more fun to drive, and do take up less space. Just let people ride golf cars on city roads, they already do it with ebikes. What's the difference between an ebike, golf cart, or 4wheeler?

On top of this
>Golf carts can have glass and roofs on them to protect against bad weather, bikes can't
>Can fit two golf carts in a parking space only one car would fit in
>People actually enjoy carpooling in a golf cart with the bros, it's fun
>Basically would turn all 2 car garages into a 2car 2cart, thus doubling the amount of available parking in said area for only a tiny increase in footprint

Just make golf cart cities. They're way safer than cars despite what (((experts))) say too, because you feel vulnerable in them and you can see everywhere around you.
