A rare form of hantavirus is believed to have spread person-to-person on board a cruise ship. 3 people are dead, 4 more are ill and nearly 150 others are stranded aboard the ship, where they will stay potentially for months until they are cleared to leave.

Hantavirus is a disease. There are two main branches, old world (discovered first and named after the Hanta River in Korea, causes kidney failure and hemorrhagic fever, 2% fatality rate in modern times, 12% without treatment) and new world (lung disease discovered in the 90s, 30-35% fatality rate, no vaccines or good treatments, deadlier than that in young healthy people with strong immune systems). Both are historically spread via mice to humans and don't spread person to person.

Argentina has had increasingly large numbers of outbreaks of their strain for years due to booming rodent populations and ranchers moving deeper into the wild, and there have been rumors and one unconfirmed case of the Andes strain spreading person to person. We don't know, however, because they left the WHO under Milei and aren't reporting anything.

Patient Zero on the cruise was a birdwatcher who had a reputation for wandering off trail and getting way too close to animals and their nests. He was seemingly infected before he got on board.

Now we have a dozen people sick and 4 dead and it's increasingly looking like the strain on the cruise is contagious. One of the victims flew to South Africa when sick, grew gravely ill at arrival, and died.

Hantavirus has a very long incubation period, up to 8 weeks, and this strain is seemingly just as deadly as the usual mice ones. We don't know how contagious it is or how well containment is going. That's what's crucial now.

If it's not that contagious this is just another MERS. If it is.....we're fucked. Everything is fucked and Birdwatcher General over there doomed us all

John Fentener van Vlissingen is definitely a person of interest however linked between her and the ship owner/operator Oceanwide Expeditions isn't clear if it exists. It seems that that link may have come from the name of the city where the boat sails from and Oceanwide is headquartered in, Vlissingen, which is named after her family, but she doesn't seem to be linked to that company directly by any means searchable. She is still a person of interest though.
>Oceanwide Expeditions is a Dutch company, a family company owned by Wijnand van Gessel and operated by his son, CEO Michel van Gessel, with Bolster Investment Partners as a minority investor.

The link came from a Facebook-post.
Maartje Fentener van Vlissingen supposedly 'christened' (dont know the english word) the ship on june 6th, 2019, but that's not verified, since it's only something that was found in this facebook post done by Ingrid Zandstra. The other toothpaste suggested that it's unlikely to be found in newspapers (i havent check them yet) and more likely to be found in maritime magazines.

The most direct approach is to ask the one who made the facebook post (ingrid.zandstra is her FB-profile). I don't have Facebook and thus can't contact her about this, as to where she got the info.

Same terminology. A psuedovirus is created as a delivery vehicle using a particular virus' ability to attach to human cells. The genetic material of the zoonotic virus is inserted into the delivery virus to make it attach to human cells when it otherwise would not. AKA, Gain of Function. This is also the same technique used in gene therapies.

> The motherfuckers actually designed a modded HV and set it loose on a cruise ship

The beauty is they didn't have to. Argentina has been experiencing a massive hanta outbreak for the last couple years.

A jew named Milel became president and cut Argentina out of WHO while plunging the economy into shit. So now you have a malnourished population with no medical resources.

These people incubate the virus until it gains the function of spreading from human to human easier or more effectively than the original flavor Andes.

Oh and Argentina is a port of call for cruises full of boomers who want to see exotic locations brimming with dangerous diseases... oh and for cheap of course.

Who needs a weapons lab.

This is the strain thats been causing outbreaks for a few years in Argentina, likely what Milel wanted all along.

Viruses tend to become less lethal and more transmittable; it wants to spread. So the catch 22 is this strain might become more transmittable but a little less deadly.

But there is still a long way to go before it becomes human endemic without artificial intervention. Host animals function like reservoirs but humans aren't really integrated in the life cycle and seem to be mostly dead ends, as they tend to die. Covid was designed to be massively infectious from the get-go, there was no adaptation period at all.

Basically everything about this is already near worst case EXCEPT for the contagion factor.

>It can now spread human to human
>It didn't lose any deadliness in the process
>It has an extremely long incubation period
>It has a latency period where you're only slightly sick and can easily spread it without realizing
>It has symptoms easily mistaken for other conditions.

The only thing stopping this from being 'the big one' is the R0 and we still aren't really sure on that. Conflicting evidence.

>>
>>534571606
You don't have to give viruses gains of function. They naturally do this by mutating and/or mixing with other viruses.

Its hypothetically possible that Andes either gained function over the last couple years of outbreaks in Argentina or maybe mutated more recently (like on the cruise itself) but thats less likely.

>>
>>534572018

>>
The thing is with this andes virus is that it’s mostly been in rural areas where the infected either die out too quickly to really carry on. Also most cases were in the same family or very close contacts so knowing about spread gets really murky. The truth is none of these viral experts have any fucking clue how this virus really acts outside of the outbreaks seen. So this virus can be very transmissible and yet we’re going off of a 20 year old case study.
>>
>>534571852
The only good part about this is the 45% mortality rate. We won't have to worry about people not wearing masks, taking vaccines, having covid sharing parties or committing to a lockdown. They will be dead.
>>
>>534571955
not enough info around that to really draw any conclusions as the stolen material was never traced. but yes there is potentially hantavirus on the black market or in the hands of someone who stole it for a purpose
>>
>>534571857
yes viruses do mutate. but in the specific case of the COVID-19 plandemic, the furin cleavage site proves that they deliberately gave the virus a function that allowed it to attach much more easily to the human lung cell. Hence why it spread as much as it did. Natural mutation in the wild takes a long time, it doesn't go from hippity hoppity to zomg 10bn people infected in less than a month. It it possible it gained function? sure. Is that function human-to-human transmission? well the strain already had that. But it doesn't appear from the exposure to have been all that infectious. But we're working on TV news data right now so ?

Yeah that's what got me concerned. In rural areas, especially with an animal resevoir and in Argentina where WHO isn't being reported anything, it harkens back to how diseases in ye olde days would often flare and smolder or have small outbreaks that would burn out...until someone took them to the cities. That's how bubonic plague became the black death.

A strain that would have burned itself out in the boonies of Patagonia has been fed fresh kindling and given a chance to evolve. And that's assuming this isn't like a random new zoonotic strain "The Birdwatcher General" picked up being an idiot with animals. That's how Swine Flu started, sick pig at county fair petting zoo

The problem wouldn't be "stopping people from trying to go out and get to work or travel" like it was for COVID, the problem would be "the doctors and nurses and truckers and train conductors and essential workers needed for society to function might just refuse to do their jobs out of fear of a 50/50 chance of dying" and the entire supply and healthcare system would buckle.

Even if you can get a vaccine in a year, and I'm sure we could, a year of something THAT bad rampaging would break the system before the vaccine would be ready. Nurses and doctors are already a strained profession full of covid trauma, you think they'd risk THIS?

Covid already fucked up our healthcare workers. We need at least 10-20 years, enough time for a new generation of workers, before our society can handle another pandemic.

The economic impact is a whole different factor too.

The infected must've come from the same area since they didn't pick it up on the boat. It should be easy to locate the cluster. If not, there must be fuckery. Rural argie poorfags don't go on cruises.

>vaccine
Yeah, in like a year. There aren't enough fucking canned goods to feed the entire planet for a year, some regions can't feed themselves as is, cities can't grow food internally.

And it's not even just food or health care, like, if the guy who repairs the water pipes and runs the treatment plant gonna risk dying when someone there croaked a week ago just to service the plant? I mean some brave bastards would, but not everyone. What if police don't want to respond to calls because of the disease?

Even if you can get a vaccine in a year, a disease with a 35% fucking fatality rate would utterly shatter society and the systems that make civilization flow at least in cities and in areas that need outside support would be collapsed within months before any vaccine is ready.

Ehh too high, rural areas with huge food surpluses where you can work without other peple being around would be fine. It would be the cities or places that are completely reliant on imports that would be in real trouble

This. Hospitals due to the decline in people entering and the trauma of the old crew ("old", some of them aren't even out of their 20s yet) would be struggling if another swine flu tier event happened just due to aftershocks.

A 35% death rate would be.....it

The entire system of fuedalism in Western Europe was ultimately broken or at least heavily shifted and several empires were destroyed. People were terrified and turned on their neighbors, entire regions were depopulated as people fled and those fleeing caused unrest elsewhere.

Let me make this clear. IF, (and that's a BIG BIG IF), this turns out be very contagious and breaks containment, the world as you know it is fucked. Vaccine won't arrive in time.

Do you guys know what Systems Collapse is? (And I mean rapid systems collapse not the slow kind that ended the Romans, like, think Bronze Age collapse). When so many things in a complex system are straining and break at the same time you run out of room to compensate or resources to divert and those problems create new problems breaking other things until the entire system comes crumbling down. In the Bronze Age collapse it was years of reduced crop harvests(combination of weather and salt build up), a couple of natural disasters striking, wars, and then all of this eventually triggered a string of famines which lead to people flooding the rural areas depleting their food and then sea people fleeing chaos elsewhere swarmed in and collapsed society and then there goes Mesopotamia and Greece and Egypt(which survived the initial shocks because the Nile is that good and they still had food) broke because everyone fleeing the rest of the collapse overloaded them and they had no one left to trade with for crucial metals they couldn't make themselves.

A contagious hantavirus with a 35% death rate breaching containment would systems collapse modern society.

Do you know what people do when they hear "coin flip chance of death" and have seen relatives suffocate to death? They get scared. The doctors and nurses already traumatized from COVID refuse to work and hunker down, truckers refuse to ship goods, train conductors refuse to go to work, ship yards are gutted as men are terrified of death, and the ones who do stay still suffer loses.

As the hospitals are overwhelmed and fewer and fewer doctors and nurses come in, and the shipments of new medical supplies never arrise as the driver supposed to deliver them is either hiding at home or dead, they collapse.

Does anyone else not like the timing of this? It’s finals season in the U.S. College kids are going to be going out on vacation and traveling home. I honestly feel like if glowniggers want to spread a disease, they do it on campuses before major events like spring break or summer/winter break. I’m no virologist or epidemiologist, but I do have a bio degree. Human-to-human transmission of hantavirus naturally seems super unlikely to me. My suspicion that this is an engineered strain of hantavirus, the timing of the FDA rat faeces outbreak and the timing of the academic schedule have me worried that this might be the big one

>Even if you can get a vaccine in a year
China already has been vaccinating millions every years. China has biolabs and GOF experience. China will save us.
> It is estimated that about two million doses of rodent brain or cell-culture derived vaccine are given in China every year
Russia has many hantavirus cases every year.
Russian can save us.

People refuse to go out and fight fires, people refuse to go repair water treatment plants, power plants, and those who still do are increasingly overworked and sloppy and at risk of dying themselves. The power is out more and more, water systems fail and you have outbreaks of ecoli because nobody fixed the chlorinator. Food is being taken off shelves faster than it can be shipped in, a ton of farmers in more crowded areas are hording supplies and too scared to interact with others and too many transporters are refusing to go to work.

And so the cities run out of food. And so the places that can't grow enough food run out of food. People flee(and for those who stay things get even worse as law breaks down for all the above reasons), and rural areas that might have been doing ok are flooded with millionf of refugees, carrying the disease, and hungry for food and medical supplies. Rural areas suffer mass outbreaks from the spread, farms and game are completely depleted, people digging shitty wells and overcrowding watersheds spread stuff like cholera,. and people need to retreat more and more fearing the lawlessness and chaos sweeping urban areas as the social order breaks and needing food and medicine.

Sure, a vaccine comes a year later, that fixes the Hanta issue. That isn't going to undo a billion or more dead, the burned cities, the entire traumatized zero trust population. You don't JUST fix that.

It took 100 years for civilization to recover from the Black Death. 300 years to recover from the Fall of Rome. 500 years from the Bronze Age collapse. Even assuming our trend of getting better at recovering holds(big if), that's still 50 years of living in an objectively worse world. Not in the paycheck or housing cosy abstract way, in the blatant real ways.

TL:DR, if this was to be worst case it would be bad, very very bad.

>Massive potential animal reservoir to fuel mutations and prevent it from being wiped out

The only thing stopping this from being 'the big one' is the R0(how contagious it is) and we still aren't really sure on that. Conflicting evidence. EVERYTHING ELSE IS ALREADY PRIMED FOR WORST CASE SCENARIO. If it's contagious to a serious degree that's it, it's over. Prepare for things to get worse

You are the naive one if you think that. Boomers and the generation before them (who are still running things) are picrel level of evil.
>>
>>534573097
It's not just the population collapse, but the total collapse of all the maintenance structures, including electricity, food, water, medicine, all utilities etc. Furthermore there's bound to be unrest which will probe the death rate further. I doubt even 5% of the human population lives "off the grid"

It's a combination of cruise ships being nasty as fuck, and many of them (though certainly not this one) cater to poor trashy people. Though I do also believe that bioweapons are deliberately released onto cruise ships if they are to be released. It's a great incubator, and they stop country to country, port to port to let people go walk around and infect others. I also don't like how this coincides with the beginning of the academic summer, which means a LOOOOT of travel and vacationing. I hope this is a nothing burger, but so far it looks to me like the powers that be are getting ready to hit us with the big one.
