oh another one for fellow tropics frens, cranberry hibiscus. super underrated and grows like a weed. whole plant is edible. leaves, sticks, flowers. best thing you can do is grow what wants to grow. there's a perfect design you just need to follow it.

fuckin based. i like to go to the beach and grab washed up moss or the lake and grab some biomass to let it burn itself down, maybe chop some trees and burn them to get some ash (potassium)
another good fert solution is chop and drop, just grow what wants to grow, the weeds and everythign, then chop them down and let them compost

One hazelnut tree provides enough calories for an adult male to live a month. Literally over 8% of your annual calories from one tree.
>>
>>534640976
it's not a couple basketfulls you fuckin kike. when you know how to grow food you can eat you're going to live better than the plebs that rely on doordash. you dont have to eat 3 meals a day.
>>
>>534641009
i have a small yard too. i use the city recycling bin and yard waste bins as my composts
>>
Cost to buy a hazelnut tree: 20 bucks
Time to plant it: 5 minutes
Doing this alone would reduce the number of calories you need to buy by 1/12.

Genuinely tough to turn into granulated sugar. Can't do it on a stove in the kitchen (though some of the Youtube videos show people trying). Grow a different root crop.
>>
>>534640765
i have my own fertilizer factory, rabbits are great and super cheap to keep, i just feed mine radom weeds and grass i cut. their poop is great fertilizer, it made my fruit trees explode in growth.

>think this last winter was modified to fuck us home growers
nah we are entering a little ice age like the midn1800's. its caused by warming ocean currents. the wef knows that and thats why they are doing the great reset. also you should grow blackeyed peas. they are a very low maintenance high producing crop. i still have picrel left from last year

If you're in zone 9a to 13b, you could grow sugarcane.
>>
>>534644478
>If you're in zone 9a to 13b, you could grow sugarcane.
It's not any easier to process, unfortunately. I see it at the grocery store sometimes, $3/stick (about 18" long). Usually still green. Haven't tried to grow it, but we're barely 8a here. I'd like to eventually get to a point where I can make both powdered potato starch and granulated sugar (from beets), but I'm looking at about $8000-10,000 in machinery from Alibaba to be able to do it. Even then, it would only be in very minor amounts (weeks to get 15lbs). Will have to wait, need to get a handle on some of the more basic things first.

You should consider ordering some silkworm eggs off of ebay for $5... at least once your mulberry trees get large enough to support a batch. The tech to turn that into yarn/thread is really really modest. Walmart isn't going to have clothes on the shelves anymore than they'll have food.
>>

>>534644961
Sure, but you can just straight-up drink the juice. Wouldn't recommend that with sugar beets.

It quite literally costs more to grow your own food than to buy it at the store. I would know, I do it every season. You think gardening shit is free or something? Or do you just think you throw seeds into the ground and call it a day? You need equipment and supplies to grow anything, which always costs more than whatever you're trying to grow. And if you're trying to grow a fruit tree, that's gonna take at least 5 years before you get a single fruit out of it, and probably dozens if not hundreds of dollars in maintenance during that time. I hate people who just spout shit without the least bit of thinking.

>>
>>534641060
As a bonus, they're comparatively high in protein for a nut. Butternuts are even better, but American ones are prone to dying from an introduced disease, and the disease-resistant American/Jap crosses are expensive.
>>
>>534650097
yeah I'm taking the hazelnut pill, I would love chestnuts but
>>
>>534650041
It did get below freezing a few times last winter but it's rare. My concern is that I'll plant stuff like tomatoes or peppers and they won't produce because it'll be too late in the spring. I dont think those plants produce during the summer or fall.
>>
>>534650227
There's a chestnut hybridization project. If you are in the right climate, it's a gigachad move to take part in it. Losing the American chestnut was one of the worst tragedies to ever occur on this continent.
>>
>>534650235
Since peppers are tropical plants you can just leave the stalk and they keep coming back. most plants people attribute to garden vegetables are from this continent so they do pretty well. potatoes might be a problem apparently with the heat and you have to do fall plantings, I'm sure if you really wanted to and you have top tier soil you could maybe put up some shadecloth or something, very deep mulch?
>>
>>534649431
Not when bubba or some mexican/jeet dredges every waterway or starts electo fishing at 2AM. Supposedly one of the reasons suppressors are regulated is because of poaching livestock during the great depression. Most wild game was hunted to near extinction in 1929-1930.
>>
>>534650492
I could get some shade cloth and already have mulch. My idea is to have a raised bed like a freedom garden since I'm not too confident of my lawn soil because it has sand patches here and there.
As for nuts, it looks like pecans might be my best bet but I haven't looked too deeply into it.

I guess what I'm cautious about is I don't want to plant a patch of greens or vegetables and then have them be smaller than my dick during workout after months of taking care of them.
>>
>>534650977
Yeah I'm not a potato expert because I've never had good soil and that's a must for them, squash would probably be your best bet if you want to plant it and forget it while having good visual indication of plant progress
>>
>>534645825
>Sure, but you can just straight-up drink the juice.
Ugh. If I can't even have proper sugar, what's the point? That's all the worst health effects, with none of the delights. No candies, no pastries... just gritty semi-sweet juice like a V8 that gives you diabetes.
