Reservoirs and lakes in the Colorado River basin are running unseasonably low for this time of year. The Flaming Gorge reservoir was already forced to dump water downstream to prevent the river from stopping at Lake Powell. Each abnormally dry year brings Lake Mead closer to 'dead pool' status - the level at which it can no longer flow through the turbines of the Hoover dam. This would be a national crisis. Fortunately, there is a solution, if we start working on it NOW:>Pipe Great Lakes water to Phoenix? It's likely, NASA scientist says>States surrounding the Great Lakes have a recurring nightmare about proposals to siphon off water for parched areas in U.S. or other countries. So they might be staggered by suggestions from NASA scientist Jay Famiglietti, who said a water pipeline from the lakes to cities like Phoenix was "part of our future.” >Famiglietti, a hydrologist and senior water scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, was in Cleveland recently for a lecture. In the interview with Ideas, he said that "from a quantity perspective you might imagine that there’s a giant bullseye that can be seen from space that’s sitting above the Great Lakes. Meaning: It’s a target area in a sense for the rest of the country.>"Because there’s so much fresh water, you can imagine that 50 years from now ... there might actually be a pipeline that brings water from the Great Lakes to Phoenix. I think that’s part of our future.” Famiglietti said such initiatives are needed to address a global water shortage.>States surrounding the Great Lakes have jealously guarded the vast water resource. After all, the lakes hold 20 percent of the world's fresh water, and those states (and the government of Canada) realize the value in a world that is increasingly faced with shortages.https://www.greatlakesnow.org/2017/04/pipe-great-lakes-water-to-phoenix-its-likely-nasa-scientist-says/
>>534660055so let's say you solve the water crisis, against all opposition to the pipelines. how do you plan to deal with rising heat levels that are going to make the are inhospitable during the daytime?
>>534660055It's a good thing we're building so many data centers that require up to 5 million gallons of water a day just to function thenhttps://www.eesi.org/articles/view/data-centers-and-water-consumption
>>534660055Sorry anon there are 24 endangered species in that route and as California has shown they are more important than a pipe line
>>534660122Changing to brown skin
>>534660122Heat isn't a problem with modern technology like air conditioning. Which does of course require power and manufacturing, both of which should be nativized to the southwest and overbuilt to reduce outages. Smaller distributed nuclear power plants, for example.
>>534660055We have managed to have several crises going on at the same time and no alarm whatsoever
Didn't snow here all year.Thank God, he is cursing this shithole blue state. The transplants were still walking around in down jackets in 60 degree winter weather.I fucking hate this place now.
>>534660055just use water desalination you stupid niggers. like 70% of drinking water in saudi arabia is sourced from the sea. why cant you money brained retards do that in california to grow your almonds?
>gets flooded with Califagia transplants>dries upGott Strafe Libtards and transplants
>>534660122If Phoenix unbans wood fireplace and place a subsidy on firewood. Therell be enough carbon to give the water precipitation more mass to encourage rain. Theres only record rain because of the fires both lightening and homeless caused. Everyone is burning natural gas in the valley
>>534660330Who the fuck even eats almonds? How does big almond have such a stranglehold on the water supply? Fucking Gunga Din these guys
>>534660330That's not really comparable. Saudi Arabia has fewer people than California alone. California plus the Colorado basin has over 50 million people. Also, the biggest users of water are not individual consumers, but farming and industry. Arizona alone will need an increasing quantity of water to cool its data centers and semiconductor fabrication plants. That's not a minor thing; it's a US national security issue. Also, it's illegal to build desal plants along most of the California coast due to environmental concerns.
>>534660055Come and take it, I double dogg dare you spics to even try.
>>534660055So let me get this straight the libtard Westerners want to build a pipeline from the Great Lakes to the Shitwest to terraform their shitty immigrant filled desert cities? Ummm no. build nuclear reactor powered de-salination plants and use water from the Pacific ocean and send the waste salt to the Great Lakes states for free to use as road salt in the winter. How bout that desert fags? If your cities cant sustain themselves with their current water supply, then take note of the situation retards.
>>534660147Force the datacenters to use and filter salt water
>>534660461They get exported to China, unironically.
>>534660634Let Califalia dry up and fall off into the Ocean.Nobody will miss them.
>>534660055Dont worry the Trump Administration will save you. You'll be fine.
>>534661656The West doesn't deserve to be saved.Fuck Califagia Aggie.Let the spics starve.
