They're rich in oil, gas, coal, fertile farmland, and water resources. They have virtually everything needed to sustain large scale industry

>>534718484
Look I like the Russians but nah, out sphere of influence is far more expansive and military industrial complex far more capable. Theyre a regional power in eastern europe and central Asia, we're a global hegemon

Westerners created Russia. They would still be squabbling tribes if Swedish kangs and German nobility didn't rule them.

The communists completely ruined Russia. It’s not an understatement. Industrialization plans under the right-wing Republican government would have developed Russia faster than in our timeline and without millions of casualties. De-Kulakization also massively stunted growth. Corruption, paranoia, incompetence, and massacre led to famine and lack of technological advancement, the people felt as though they were no more than tools, and the system eventually collapsed because nobody could respect or tolerate the atrocious system. The post-Soviet Collapse period was also obviously hellish, undoing what little progress had been made by the communists from the Tsarist times at the cost of millions of lives, and in the chaos the strongman we all know, Putin, initially looked like he would, at best, bring the country up to modern standards, or at worst at least stabilize it at the cost of democratic representation and institutions, but now he will be known as the man who killed Russia.

They just can't catch a break.
>be alexander II
>try to liberalize the country
>still get assassinated by socialists
>future monarchs crack down hard on socialists and revert much of the liberalization in response
>do ww1 for some dumb reason
>get yeeted by bolsheviks
>they do their retarded shit for 70 years
>it fails
>country in chaos for a decade
>putin actually fixes much of the issues
The fact that they had to rebuild the economy basically from scratch in the 21st century is interesting. The era of cheap over seas labour and industrial outsourcing made it a much more difficult task. That's why their economy is mostly based on the export of raw materials. Even America can't figure out how to get manufacturing back as tariffs don't even do anything.

Russia does have some poor regions. Putin could have invested public money in these regions, to give Russians better lives. Instead Putin decided to send Russians from poor regions to die in Ukraine.

Except the brains to sustain large scale industry.
Also, most of the inhabitants are peasants, living in semi-autonomous regions. Think reservations for native Americans but writ large.
Also, Russians are largely alcoholics. They used to let kids drink beer; that only changed in 2011.
And they're commies.
I could go on.
