To be fair, the newer LED lights solved the problem of getting brighter safer lights for driving and visibility. They kept trying to get pure white light with the old halogens, but it never worked. The warm glow was a mistake, a failure.
Though, yeah, I do miss the ambiance. For some parks and areas yo just walk around, they should use LEDs with that warmer hue or just use ild warm colored halogens.
>>
>>534750874
Yeah. Sodium lights, not halogen. I should have remembered. My dad worked an internship at Sylvania making lights back in the 50s and told me about the different types they had.

LED light is less diffuse due to the way the diode's constructed.
Most LEDs you can buy here have heavily fogged/smoked plastic shrouds that help diffuse the light so it's softer and nicer to look at.

i know. tried those too. it diffuses alright, but doesn't change the outcome. i build desk lamps from old bike parts and used usb power supplies with them and 3,5-6W incandescent bulbs or halogen. also tried 12V and 100 or 200 lum LED g4. it works for a desk or the kitchen, but not even gilding the reflectors would change the character of light so much as to make it feasible for living room space. cri is impressive but you also see every grain of dust. LED is not ready yet to replace incandescent. not for me anyway.

>Sodium vapor lights were sufficient intensity to see at night
But the CRI of those lamps was so low that you couldn’t differentiate colors. Everything looked off and low contrast. A red jacket was brown like the background.
I think the issue with LED adoption was that LEDs can be had in so many different brightnesses, CRI, farbtemperatures, etc. and some local governments just didn’t care enough to buy the good ones. While with the sodium lamps all of them were warm at least and not too bright, so you couldn’t fuck up as bad. But regulation seems to have fixed that.

>>534753708
I do agree with you that the car lights became too bright with the switch to LED, but that doesn’t have to with the LED itself, they did it just because it was possible now. And yes, there are LED street lamps that cast wired shadows, but that’s down to the reflector and diffuser they use or don’t use.

Apparently the Regular Show guy wanted to make it so neither character married their original girlfriend, which is pretty mature.

Adventure Time is whimsical but how it portrays women and relationships is downright deceitful. It's straight up harmful for young men. "Just be nice!!" might as well be telling young guys to cut themselves, seriously.

If you slap a soft-white filter and get rid of that spike in the deep blue they look fine. I replaced all my internal bulbs with them years ago. The reason so many of these new LED lights are so harsh is because a lot of manufacturers cut the filters to save $0.01 per unit on the overhead.

Incandescent bulbs and sodium vapor are outputting 75-80% of their power as infrared/heat instead of visible light. It's the equivalent of running a gas station where all the pumps have holes in the hoses.

>>534757704
You are right.
>>
>>534751434
This board is under 45 and it shows. You’re right: the orange glow was terrible and no Ody wanted it. It was a step in the wrong direction. Unfortunately most people reading this are simply too young to know what came before high pressure sodium street lights.

I remember the change. I was a young teenager when lamps were getting swapped to the orange lights. There were town hall meetings and letters to city council members. Nobody wanted this shit. Everyone wanted to stick with the clear, white lights that they’d had for decades.

Cities and towns across the country installed the ugly orange lights to save money. The older mercury vapor bulbs (which produce a pure white light) costs more to operate and don’t last as long.

It wasn’t to protect anyone eyesight and it wasn’t to create a weird orange ambiance across the country. It was a cold blooded financial decision.

I’ve waited decades for the orange lights to finally be taken down, and now idiots itt want to keep them simply because they don’t know any better.
>>

But truly the orange lights were less intense than these new shit lights.
And they pointed into the ground instead of these new lights without a cap on top.
>>
>>534761018
Well my friend, you only like the white lights because you don't remember the warm glow of real fire torches. Or even before that we used to just have pure darkness or moonlight. Now THAT was kino! Nothing better than pure darkness where we lived in fear of wild animals or bandits hiding in the shadows. Those were the days lemme tell ya.
>>

Not sure about this. I had to recently drive from chicago to seattle and had to scrub bugs off my windshield every time I stopped for gas or I couldnt see.
