Just got a letter from my landlord that they aren't raising rents. Rent prices are stagnating or falling everywhere because he's actually building housing units.

Nothing personal.
>>
Being a landlord sucks, I rented out my parking space one time and I nearly had an aneurism when the stupid tenant stopped paying me and continued parking there. I got their car towed and had to pay $75 for a new garage door fob because they stole it. And yes they were not normal people

What part of the country are you in?
Rent is stagnating in some places because incomes and local economies are collapsing in places that were dependent on US exports and/or immigration. Annual housing construction has not increased, but the strength of demand for housing has.
>>

*strength of demand for housing has decreased
>>
How can you live in an apartment KEK
>>
>>534790180
Pretty sure my rent stays the same, because $3,000 per month for a condo on King Street is the absolute maximum that people in Toronto could be expected to pay for a place to live.
Not complaining, by the way, the place is so large that I can hear an echo from my footsteps. It's just the reality.

Toronto, and from what I hear government sponsored housing is BOOMING.

>>534791862
How can you live in a house lol. I feel guilty enough having an apartment. I couldn't live with myself if I lived in a house.

>>534791868
I live in North York, it's $2500. Rent has increased 2% annually for the longest time now, it's just now that stagnated.
>>
>>534790180
Why would a landlord send a useless letter
>>
>>534792137
>I live in North York, it's $2500.
How big's the condo?
I pay $3k for 975 sq. ft.
>>

One bedroom, don't know exactly square footage. It was the cheapest one the realtor could find for me.

You are aware that Toronto's economy was heavily dependent on both immigration and US trade fueling demand?
Housing that is financed by cheap loans underwritten by the federal government, is increasing because it is the only way to make housing construction work. Overall housing starts (# of new units) in Toronto is way the fuck down. Carney is all talk so far.
>>
>>534792487
I'm talking about direct units owned by the Federal Government
>>
>>534792566
>I'm talking about direct units owned by the Federal Government
That doesn't really happen anywhere in the world outside. Contractors are universal.
>>
>>534792484
Damn, so the rent prices really are all the same in the GTA, regardless of the exact location.
>>
>>534790180
That guy and his policy, doing something called feudalism; and he trying to oppress people. his types doing a plot.
>>
>>534792616
Scandinavia did it, a huge portion of their housing units, especially in the 70s and 80s were government owned. Britain had tons and sold them off prior to Thatcher.

My goal is for Carney to create so many of these units that it puts extreme downward pressure on rent, so real rent values fall (nominal rent stagnates while wages and prices of other goods continue to rise).

>>534792674
No, I used to live on Adalaide near Bay Street, and it was way more expensive I had two roommates but combined it was like $3800

I moved here since it was cheaper and I don't need a roommate.

>>534792701
Correct, but it will be Canadians who want housing units that will get to be the Barons/Nobles
>>
>>534792701
Me agree with memeflag, no trust former Goldman Sachs wef stooge, him up to something
>>
>>534792566
Are you sure? Federal-owned public housing has not been constructed in Toronto for several decades.
>>
>>534792836
I haven't looked at the data specifically but I've heard they've successfully constructed many units.

They might be using private contractors to build them, but the ownership will remain Federal
>>
>>534790180
wild how nobody noticed binging in 800000 jeetnigs a year would increase housing demand
>>
>>534792867
You heard wrong. No federal-owned housing has been constructed in Toronto for several decades.
The reason your rent is stagnating is because Toronto's economy is stagnating due reduced immigration and trade with the US.
>>
>>534792956
They also massively overbuilt condos for the past 10-20 years
>>
>>534793083
They built to the feds' stated arrival of 1 million new canadians annually
>>
>>534790180
Say thank you leaf.

So this Elbows Up is benefitting me?
>>
>>534793184
I think it was more based on infinite Chinese money coming in, but that seems to have dried up. Either way Toronto’s a shithole so they’re welcome to it imo
>>
>>534790180
let me guess. brookfield is building the "houses"
>>
>>534793505
yup. i was right. lmao.
>>
>>534793495
>Shithole

It's a Utopian society.
>>
>>534793482
Current federal policy is likely leading to cheaper rents in Toronto in the short term.
Long term it is either going to lead to a poorer, more unemployed Toronto or a massive, sudden massive spike in your rent when things return and there's no housing supply to meet it.
Enjoy today. Tomorrow's waiting.
>>
>>534793637
Tomorrow I hope to be richer and get enough raises to be people to afford the higher rents.
>>
>>534793622
It’s a soulless deracinated mass of humanity masquerading as a city, devoid of charm or character
>>
>>534793686
It will be difficult, though not impossible, to rise up in a falling local economy. I wish you luck. You will need it.
>>
>>534793736
I've been living here and I've been able to work, earn money, buy food, including steaks. Pay rent, walk to the store, buy meatsticks too. Also beers at the LCBO.

I literally have a perfect life in every single way thanks to this city. I was told growing up I'd never ever be able to afford steaks again and I should enjoy them while I can but I can buy steaks whenever I want due to Loblaws or No Frills. And the beers too at any corner store for when LCBO closes.
>>
>>534793809
I won't dox myself too much but at my company apparently some dudes make six figures after 3 years. If I can make six figures, that is such an insanely high raise from where I am i will be in a much better spot even if cost of living increases 50%
>>
>>534793736
eh it's not so bad. some pretty good neighbourhoods left.

Meanwhile Alberta is fucked. I was paying 950 a month for a shitty, moldy unit that was not even worth staying in a single month. It was base level, every retard shined their headlights through because they were calling up drug-whores for a one night fuck. Moved with an insane relative. Different problems exchanged but more money saved.

Can't wait to separate and shoot druggies dead in the streets. I fucking hate this faggot shithole joke of a country.

>>534793813
>>534793894
You sound young and naive. I'm glad you're happy, but understand that essentially none of what you like has anything to do with the preferred policy of the current federal government. This is a short break. Also you're here forever.
>>
>>534793900
yeah, there's a lot of beautiful victorian houses here
>>
>>534794287
If the Federal Government's policies result in cheaper rent, meaning I can have extra money and be able to afford meat and beers, they have created a utopian society that I will never ever complain about.
