They get *everything they want* from stabbing us in the back... because all they way is our destruction. It's the highest reward they can achieve, and it's so desirable to them that they'd pay nearly any price to achieve it. Giving up their money? Sure, it's not cheap but still a bargain. Destroying themselves? Yeh, they'd hesitate a little bit on that one, would look for a way to kill us and escape... but if there were no other way, they'll grimly pursue it.
