Need a good mother's day gift? How about some perennial fruit/nut trees/shrubs/vines? Not only will it embellish her yard, but it'll also provide food (which is becoming increasingly expensive).Look at how pretty nannyberries are. The berries themselves taste like a mix between prunes and bananas.
>>534804746How about I plant a whole orchard of "shut the fuck up?"
>>534804818Well, you're off to a bad start with how much yapping you're doing.
Last thread, glowies went hard on the "ANIMALS ATE IT ALL" angle. It just goes to show how much learned helplessness plagues their ranks.Netting isn't expensive and squirrels can be taken out humanely with a .22 (and are delicious).
>>534804746nice
>>534804746I grow shit all the time but this is the faggiest tone for a gardening thread and won’t end up any good.
All my mom wants is for me to.come over and make a crispy chicken caesar salad from scratch which i will do and maybe buy some flowers from a chink corner store
>>534805001Call your mother, Anon.
>>534805004A raspberry bush will keep giving her flowers every year for decades.
>>534804746My mother is completely incompetent at taking care of plants. She listens to bullshit yuppie homestead LARPer podcasts while on the shitter which invariably guarantees each season since she moved to the countryside had at best a handful of harvest and nothing but water shoots and pests otherwise.Love her dearly but she's just plain incapable of believing she hasn't found some secret backdoor to farming that's as easy as industrial farming and as sustainable as permaculture and it always just produces trash.Picrel is one of the trays of stuff she grew from seed. The cubes are steel wool. She killed one batch before I told her she needed to use fertilizer. Then she whined until she finally got some.I took care of it (it's a tray not a proper growing thing so I had to really ride the edge on moisture) while she was away after finally convincing her it needed nutrients (then she bought some syrupy algea Thing) Then when she came she constantly caused it to stand in the water and rot.I really dearly love this woman with all my heart. But she has neither the wisdom nor the emotional maturity to do this kind of thing.Last year I offered to put in her flower bulbs. She hitched that she'd have to look at a bare spot until the next year.So Now I'm clearing bullshit hard packed dirt in the sun rather than when it would've been easy and sensible.Etc.Guess we'll starve.
>>534805184>steel wool
>>534805279Err. Glass. Or something. Some inorganic material made for hydroponics I'm hella tired.
>>534805394Yeah, I think you're better off getting her saplings instead of growing anything from seed.
Actinidia kolomikta is also really pretty (and way tastier than "fuzzy" kiwis).
Or I guess you could buy her a dog's ass fruit, lol
Or maybe a wintergreen? It's a very pretty plant and the berries are refreshing.
>>534804746I’ll give my mom a “how do?” And that’s about it.
>>534807375Not on great terms with her? That's quite sad.
Buying flowers that will die in a few days isn't even remotely as nice as a plant that will stick around for years and years.
>>534804746My Mother can't even keep plants indoors healthy. every woman older than her grow plant in or out fine. mother is last year of the Baby boomers>>534806631i like this. i'll try to find this
>>534805184>My mother is completely incompetent at taking care of plants.Things could be worseShe could be really good at it and is constantly making you go up to the store and getting potting soil and constantly making you move them around and split them into other planters and has like fucking 80 of them in the house yard and porch
>>534808866To get fruit you need both a male and female plant. The rule of thumb is up to 8 females per male. The male plants have more colourful leaves than the females.
Goumi berry would be another nice option. It's a very ornamental plant (The berries have shiny speckles!) and are quite tasty. The smaller ones tend to be better tasting than the large ones.
>>534809268That'd be something I'd do gladly desu.>>534805457Real.
>>534810693Austria is mostly zone 7, so you have a lot of really good options.
Look at how pretty these pink lemonade blueberries are!
>>534804746I always get my mom plants because it keeps her outside and doing gardening stuff, which she loves very much. It also keeps her active so she doesn't loss her muscle mass and get all frail.
Are there any figs that look as aesthetically pleasing as black mission figs? I do like the panache tiger stripes, but the black mission seem elegant
