It's just starting. I'm in Ag, in California, and we have been eating it the last few years, zero profit, running on savings, that's almost gone. The cost of labor(actually the housing cost), fuel, taxes/fees. Things are about to break. Massive amounts of the crop I'm in is going to rot in the field this year. Caring for it and harvesting it cost way more than just leaving it. We've already had to let go ~2/3 of the workers.

The truth of why they are doing it is because Del Monte has licensing rights to the specific strain of peach tree that the farmers are growing, and due to that the farmers are contracted to destroy the trees.

Well if the food never gets to a human for consumption, we can still reasonably claim we have a shortage of food - even though the sheer volume of food produced would easily fulfill one of the hierarchy of basic needs.
But yeah you're right, the woes aren't actually due to a lack of goods themselves, just purposeful gaming of the infrastructure that moves goods around. Hopefully one day we can move beyond scrambling or creating situations where people have to scramble to achieve basic food/clothing/shelter, so we can focus our efforts on more meaningful and valuable usage of time. But it's complicated, and this is part of why.
>>
>>534836881
The beans aren't leaving. The real problem out here in Caliwali is the housing costs. You need to pay people ~$40/hr to be able to afford shelter. It's full insane and unsustainable.

It takes 4 years for a peach tree to start producing a steady amount of fruit. That's why you don't chop them down unless you really have to.

Meanwhile; has the demand for peaches collapsed recently, or will this action simply create a gap in the supply, causing the prices to skyrocket?

It's a shitty situation, but it's understandable how the country got here. For those who haven't followed the background:
> you want to grow a crop
> but the weeds will take over
> getting rid of the weeds is a pain in the ass
> there are sprays, but they have problems
> some don't kill all the weeds; others will kill the crop along with the weeds

Enter Monsanto:
> they create a weed killer spray that will kill absolutely everything
> they create seeds for a strain of crop X which is genetically designed to resist the super weed killer

So... you plant with their seeds, then spray with their spray, and you get healthy crops. But... you can't save and reuse the seeds because they're 'intellectual property'; and if you dare use the weed killer on anything other than their seeds, you're spraying random death to everything it touches.

What's needed, of course, is to put some people at work to reverse engineer both; in the same clean room technique that eventually succeeded in breaking Apple's OS, allowing for "apple clones" to be legally sold

Retarded goycattle, I swear.
The least effort way to profit from all that is to smash the apples and squeeze out all the juice and put them in a wide air exposed container and add some bee honey.
You obtain sweet apple vinegar which is not too acidic but good and tasty, especially in salads, and the liquid lasts years, plenty of time to sell it.
Literally everything is a resource which can be transformed into something else more valuable, you just need a brain to be capable of doing it.
I hope all farmers go bankrupt from the coming oil and fertilizer prices and shortages.

No, apple clones were not licensed. Apple was, at the time, the most anal-retentive litigator in regards to their copyrights out there.

Several companies had attempted to create 'clones' of the Apple ][e, and every one of them were legally beaten down to a pulp.

To get around it, they did a clean room reverse engineering. I won't bore you with the description, but it separates the people writing the clone from ever having access to the original or any of it's documents.

One of the first companies to do it successfully went on to sell the Laser 128. It was a wonderful machine, and was the second computer I ever owned.
