>Karma system sucks
>Subreddit mod "I'm-gonna-enforce-my-own-agenda-here" system sucks
>Quote system sucks

I refuse to believe there isnt a demand out there for a forum where people can discuss just about anything freely, and that can bring a more improved system.
Why the fuck has not a single billionare tried to challenge the Reddit hegemony?

how would you make a better one?

There is one already, in the Fediverse. I run a server.

The software in Fediverse is built by commies, but it is easy to host one your own. https://join-lemmy.org/

This.

I believe people have tried
A lot, actually
None of them really took off
I remember when I was a kid in 2010 there was this plebbit clone called “iambored” or something and it had somewhat of a following. It tried to distinguish itself with its user culture being less prone to mass downvoting over differing opinions

I hope the competitor that comes along is nothing but pictures of Nicole Kidman’s girlpenis and we give karma to the poster who found it.

Running forums is too costly. You have to worry about DDoS attacks and server costs.
> Why the fuck has not a single billionare tried to challenge the Reddit hegemony?
They don’t care and won’t save us. Moment anyone, left or right, talks about controversial subjects like Jews or Israel moderation will just turn into Reddit 2.
>>
>>534842321

The forums from the decentralised internet were and still are superior.

The main issue with fighting Reddit is that it's extremely difficult to get into a social media space, the only exception to this is instant messaging services.
>>
>>534842321
They did. They all failed. The karma system was inherently designed to curve actual discussion. A free speech website doesn’t work with it.

newfag here
after the feds went after the pizza posters all the normies came to 4chan and /b/ which was 90% of it.
so all the btards went to reddit which was peak internet

there has never been a better site than reddit pre 2012 before they started the propaganda, changed the voting system, karma inflation and limited the visibility of controversial opinions

thats when the former crew came back to 4chan, now /pol/

each one of us that was there during the 2010 to 2012 peak just wished there was another website.

after they took reddit from us there was an attempt with voat but it was dead and flooded with pol content which kept the normies away

it was a beautiful world where normies and shizos got mostly along with each other

there also wasnt that much to be shizo about

Because it's a broken format, your right to weigh in on an issue is at the mercy of a hundred little petty internet tyrants. If they don't like you you won't even be heard.

That cant be true.
The formula is very simple.

Step 1: Moderators for their respective subs can only enforce rules set by the entire website; No breach of integrity, no offtopic discussions, no doxxing, no personal threats, no criminal activity etc. Moderators can be held accountable if they wrongfully ban someone who never breached these standardized site-wide rules.

Step 2: No karma system: Comment section is first come first served. Comments cannot be 'liked' or 'disliked'. Conversations should not be manipulated into influence the reader on what is a good or bad comment.

Step 3: Better quoting system that makes conversations easier to follow. Not gonna elaborate on this because I dont get paid to do so but surely some smart fag could be hired to sit down and think of a better system that gives less cancer than what Reddit has.

Anybody that believed in online freedom 15+ years ago perished in the culture wars or got suicided

The real problem is eliminating jeets and bots from the internet. No third worlder should even have internet access.

VOAT used to be similar, but there wasn't that much traffic. That's where a lot of the banned subs from reddit went.

Be cool if Elon would buy a couple news channels like NBC and CBS and also 4chan and Reddit.

He did the world the biggest favor ever to free Twitter of Socialist censorship and create a mostly free-speech platform other than 4chan.

Most normies haven't heard of 4chan or Reddit desu. They still be stuck on boomerbook and tiktokagram.

Stop saying it's impossible to create a forum that could be near identical to Reddit except for the no karma no polticals mods with self-serving power etc, and stop telling me there isnt any kind of demand for this kind of forum to exist.
It's bullshit. Of course there is a demand.

Are you kidding? there's like a million clones out there. Problem is how do you get millions of people to use them? Even if it's the best thing in the world, way better than Reddit, you run into the chicken and the egg problem, where you need users to attract new users because you don't have users but you can't attract new users because you don't have users.
>>
>>534843166
Times are different, people are demoralized and/or braindead, and it feels like most have settled into the right/left dichotomy too much to care about such fickle matters. Reddit used to be a bunch of nerdy dudes in their 20s and 30s but this generations equivalent of that is content to sit on discord or twitter/bsky without needing much more
