There's only one toy company left, Hasbro, who controls all prices and distribution on the market. Temu toys can't be sold because of the choking hazard, which prevents almost all toys from being sold directly in person. Also, the plain fact is that the suburban laces CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid now work in are rapidly aging, with the average age at about 59. Kids aren't walking into the store twice a week to get medicine, old people are. All the drug stores are now merging into being dedicated, purpose-built old people stores for medicine, canes, jewelry, makeup etc. Target is going down this road too and Walmart will be there in 5ish years (and already is in some regions).I judge toy store quality based on their ability/desire to sell normal model trains. Even around christmas, getting a legit model train set IRL is basically impossible now that it's all online. Retail stores don't want to buy then resell them, kids destroy them, and babies choke on them. So they aren't sold anywhere but the Internet.
