You could have a lot of freedom in this country if you just got rid of the concept of universal rights. For example, if one town could decide who of its populace was eligible to vote, and another town could decide who is eligible to live there, and another town what constitutes a legal use of force. But the central government tries to define all qualities of life and force them upon the entire populace. A town in this country cannot determine its own rules of behavior, they are handed down from Congress and the Supreme Court.
