It might be a local situation but I would like to hear anyone else's thoughts on the matter. I've personally noticed a massive increase in obvious cosmetic damage on people's vehicles, everything from having a headlight/taillight out to missing numbers, broken windshields, riding on a spare, you name it. My wife and I have made a game out of pointing them out People are openly ignoring vehicle damage driving cars that are 12-20+ years old Is it like this everywhere?

My vehicle has cosmetic damage, will Not fix it.It's old and it does the job, I am so Greatful for my car. Don't need to make it look perfect to have good use of it. I maintain it well internally.And, I can afford to get it done.Simply put, I don't need to impress anyone who may see a patch, a dent or else.

Today every car is under 5 years old with a huge percentage of them being Teslas and $100K luxury SUVs. Noticeably less accidents because every car has auto braking and lane assist. No more blown tires because the cars aren't even old enough. Everyone is rich except me.

The thing is insurance takes it's sweet ass time with scheduling damage assessments and "reports" so you're usually forced to drive around with the damage for 2 months, possibly more. Currently going through that because a neighbor backed up into my door and insurance has to make extra extra sure it isn't econimically totaled.That's another point that irks me btw. If the damage exceeds 130% of what the insurance determines the value of the car to be pre accident, its classified as totaled and you either have to sell it to an insurance approved dealer at a massive loss compared to it's true value or keep driving it like that and get an equally undervalued payout of the remaining "value" of the car post accident. Say the repairs would account for 132% value, they don't let you cover those 2 extra percent and get it repaired, no you have to agree to their fucked evaluations and play their game.

Vertical dents and side gashes. Can't maintain safe distances? Rear end damage. The correlation is astonishing once you start looking for it.
