However I see international relations more like a web. At the moment they are leaning on Pakistan, a sunni state with tenous relations to the West and animosity towards India, not China. So I see that dependence which in turn is to some extent reliant on China as a weak spot. Not to mention that Pakistan is arguably militarily more powerful because iirc they have stockpiled strategic nukes which would be perfect (in extremo) to annihilate what's left of Iran needs to support life. And Pakistan is not unified at all. So hegemon yes, but robust, no.
