I bought a 12 acre farm for 14k an acre, plus a house. I am going to buy another 35 acres at basically the same rate. Mortgage on that land will be about 36k a year. Selling 420 lambs a year at 20kg deadweight should net just north of 50 grand. Input costs will be around 8k. So a "cash bonus" of 6 grand left after a year's farming (this is not accounting for the initial purchase of the 12 acres and house) I am not signing up for any of the new grant schemes as they feel like a deal with the devil.There's fuck all cash in it.
