A hazelnut tree produces enough calories for an adult male to live an entire month with a 2,500 Cal/day diet.
If you plant 4 trees, that covers 1/3 of your annual calories.
A hazelnut tree costs 10 bucks, matures in ~4 years and will continue putting out nuts for ~40 years.

ONE POUND of nuts (in shell) costs ~8 dollars.

If you have land and you aren't planting perennial fruit/nut trees, shrubs and/or vines, you are actually dumb.

You’re going to turn into a hazelnut
>>
>>534952953
Pretty sure you'd have nutrient imbalance if you lived exclusively on hazelnuts. We aren't squirrels.

Every time i go near mine i get attacked by birds

Nutrient imbalance is based and trads, only woketards push the DIVERSE diet meme
>>
>>534952953
I'm curious to know what disease or deficiency you'll die from if you only eat hazelnuts.
>>
>>534953114
Since when is 1/3 = 1?
Also, squirrels are edible.
>>
I am ever amazed at how retarded the glowies are when trying to fight against people growing food. Aggressively stupid.
>>
>>534953114
Humans survived with "nutrient imbalances" since the inception of the species
>>
>>534953226
iron obviously aka anemia/hypoxia
>>
If kept at room temperature, unshelled hazelnuts last 6 months. If refrigerated, they last an entire year. Double that if frozen.
>>
>>534953312
the solving of this problem, the seasonal and regional nutrition imbalances has allowed the population to live longer and grow. Things that can merely be "survived" aren't necessarily best for the organism.
>>
>>534953407
hazelnuts are actually not a bad source of iron

Let's hope it's quick, I get sick just thinking about eating hazelnuts for a week at best.
>>
>>534953781
u canot use any iron from plants and iron contains so many oxalates and tanins youd even be deficient if youd eat 50% hazelnuts and 50% beef, planttard

A dwarf cherry tree produces 20+ pounds of fruit in a season. 1 pound of cherries costs ~7 bucks. A cherry tree costs 60 bucks. It pays for itself almost twice over in one growing season once mature (~3 years from cuttings) and continues to produce for 50+ years.
>>
>>534953864
those toxins are produced by fungi, not a problem if the nuts are stored properly

>>534953902
I don't believe this is true
>>
>>534952953
>bro, just eat like 50 hazelnuts every day!
>be sure to turn the remaining 2/3 of your diet into a dense nutrient powerhouse with minimal fat too
Why the fuck would you do this though?
>>
>>534953864
your post contains extremely low test and i dont want to see such posts

You are forgetting what a fucking pain in the ass is to de-shell all these fuckers. Better to plant a walnut tree.

A fig tree matures in ~3 years, produces several pounds of fruit per season and can continue producing fruit for multiple centuries. They cost ~30 bucks per tree.
>>
>>534954147
Walnuts are way harder to shell and take much longer to mature (~10 years).
>>
>>534952953
I'm not a big fan of hazelnuts. Where do I buy peanut trees?
>>
>>534953995
It's actually closer to ~130 hazelnuts each day to hit 1/3 of your total caloric intake.
>>
>>534954381
Peanuts don't grow on trees. They also require digging to harvest.
>>
>>534954381
You don’t, they’re shrubs. They’re also nitrogen fixers that help naturally fertilize the soil.

I sir vill not eat zee nuts
I vill not take zee vax

>Will continue to nut for ~40 years
Dang

Tree crops are great, the expansive root networks of trees give them greater access to soil micronutrients, many tree nuts are high in essential minerals.

I'd love to have some of the new blight resistant American chestnut trees, but I don't have space for them. They also take nearly 20 years before they start to produce properly.
>>
>>534954769
They also help prevent soil erosion.
>>
>>534954479
>They also require digging to harvest.
I better plant hazelnut trees then because I don't have a shovel.
>>
>>534954362
You get more nut flesh per shelled nut though, also they're more versatile in cooking
>>
>>534954147
>Better to plant a walnut tree.
Macadamia or Pecan are probably more profitable, if you can grow them.
>>
>>534952953
when are mods going to ban you for spamming this every fucking day
>>
You can maximize space usage by first planting a tree, then planting a vine that climbs the tree and then planting a shrub that fills out the space at the bottom of the tree. Three harvests from one spot.

You have thousands of identical 1PBTID threads about Ukraine, black people, jews and peepeepoopoo, but can't handle one organic thread about becoming more self-sufficient.

>Fig. 1

Very nice idea!
>>
>>534953435
which relies on a complex chain of production
trees like op suggests are the easiest way to achieve self sufficient food production
>>
>>534955064
Especially if you raise pigs. The quality of the meat is drastically better if they have a diet rich in nuts, even the ones we can't eat (without heavy processing) like acorns.
>>
the great thing about chestnuts is that their nutrient profile is closer to that of staple grains and potatoes, rather than being mostly fat.
you can practically feed a village with a handful of mature chestnut trees

>>534954796
and they can provide windbreaks and favorable microclimates for other plants
>>
>>534955219
Yup. Planting trees is one of the best things you can do for the environment.
