Our civilization is too technical. A classical education or compendium of knowledge (logic, mathematics, philosophy, music theory, etc.) is insufficient for achievement in any particular field, all of which have become fiddled with minutiae and obsession with technique.
We live in a system that incentivizes wealth accumulation. Why would anyone waste their time thinking about things when they could be making money?

But with freedom and funding these scientists often branched out.Then there was also the "gentleman and scholar" era where wealthy nobility saw it as their duty to study when they weren't compelled to work since they were landed wealth. Those types also pushed knowledge quite a bit.I know a lot of different things but it's all frankly pretty amateur. The less profitable it is, the better I generally am at it. Why?
