They have been the punchline for American social liberalism for almost forty years at this point, being one of the few religious groups polite to openly mock for many, many reasons; meanwhile, the religious right is now getting more 'results based' with people openly weighing the virtues of a given religion based on how racist it is, and the split seems to come from dealing with how stupid evangelicals are alongside the issue between those who are willing to be openly Christian identity/the flavor of racism popular in the month vs those who preach that they do not see color. They also are the bedrock of America's support for Israel and are the goodest golems to have ever lived, which has had obvious long term consequences that are playing out at the moment. Are evangelicals to be made to carry out agriculture work or the kids reeducated?
