Maybe they're just not going to college because they're realizing that it's not probably not worth putting yourself into crippling debt if there's no guarantee you'll be able to quickly get rid of it after you graduate. Men do seem to be more debt-averse than women now. If I was fresh out of high school now I would take my chances with my high school diploma rather than saddle myself down with debt.
