interest payments on debt are tax-deductible, equity financing is not. government literally subsidizes massive debt ridden leveraged buyouts through tax policy
toys-r-us and physical stores have ada, osha, employment, zoning, building codes, etc. compliance costs that ecommerce can bypass. and amazon got away not charging sales tax for a good chunk of its life
post 2008 ZIRP made it artificially cheap for private equity to debt load deals and allowed amazon to operate at a loss for years while destroying competition, this should not happen in a free market
capitalism did not kill toys r us. tax distortion, fed subsidy, regulations, and crony finance killed toys r us.
>>
>>535026804
>you mean some capitalist

China owns business's in the US, so communists could always seize the means of production by undercutting everywhere or delivering a better product at a good price. The US has always been socialist at minimum.

Capitalism is about voluntary agreements between 2 parties. The money for this buy-out came from somewhere and whoever gave the money got hosed big time. They were the ones who made the bad decision and got punished for it. Reddit is acting like this was some infinite money glitch.

also "30,000 workers got nothing"
this is because federal bankruptcy law has a priority hierarchy of creditors. secured creditors aka the equity firms debt instruments get paid out first while worker severance is unsecured and gets crumbs. absent this retarded system, workers could and would negotiate severance protections like wage liens that survive bankruptcy. it's federal bankruptcy code that prioritizes corporatism (big surprise) and prevents these protective arrangements from functioning how they should

Why doesn't the US just offload all it's debt on Mexico or Puerto Rico?
>>
>>535027674
sure but imo that's mostly legitimate market forces. your parents clearly preferred cheap prices over whatever a specialty store has to offer. you might want to wax poetic about how poor mom and pop deserve their cut, but it's a fact that people don't vote for that with their wallet. vertical integration and economies of scale are just more cost effective, a "specialty" store needs to really offer something special to stand out and survive.
there are of course some ways where the big box stores enjoy unfair advantages. regulatory complexity and compliance costs are a big one, it's easy for megamart to have a team of lawyers to deal with bullshit, it's not so easy for mom and pop. the taxpayer funded interstate system massively helped the central distribution model. agriculture subsidies for mega farms in cahoots with the big brands. eminent domain also gets abused to build these giant shopping centers when the price of property otherwise would prevent it.

You know when a bank lends money to private equity to buy a business the bank is taking a risk. The people who take the loan are taking a risk when they buy a failing business and try to turn it around. If a business wasnt failing to start with, it would be incredibly expensive to buy and there wouldnt be steps to improve it since its already running well.

The business can completely legitimately take on debt to try to function or expand or innovate or whatever. The people who buy the business and try to save it do of course expect to get paid a wage but they dont always succeed.

People mad at private equity are brainless communists. They havnt the slightest idea how the world works.
>>
>>535027226
There are guys who will just give you all their money to buy a business that then fails. Its free money! Also no hard feelings. They give it out infinitely and they dont care if you fail and they lose money.
>>
>>535025810
Things get bought by PE when they are already dying, its a last ditch thing.
>>
>>535028891
>the bank is taking a risk
then bank is not taking a risk because the PE's debt instruments are secured in bankruptcy proceedings. if they fail the bank is guaranteed to get its money back. about the worst that happens is they lose out on interest. and the interest itself is a perverse incentive for PE to buy debt as well because it's tax exempt.

>TRU died because toys died.
Not even true. The demographics just shifted. They could habe just sold man children merchandise and habe a kids section next to it.
>>
>>535029098
That isn't how it works at all. The bank only gets its money back if there is money to get back. They might be first in line but that doesnt mean they are lending risk free.

Brainless communists. You are poor because you are stupid. Not because the world is unfair. Well maybe its unfair that you are stupid but no one else did that to you.
>>
>>535028891
sure except it keeps coming out that the same people tasked with saving these companies not only never save them, but also take out massive naked short positions early on. There are tens of thousands of people who have worked for these companies and it's always the same thing, the moment new management comes in it's obvious it's a firesale. They're not actually trying to turn these companies around.
>>
>>535029311

Do it to the entirety of the Jewish population, you will die like the worthless rats you are eating eachother

Allowing jews into your economy doesnt mean suddenly that thing wont work. The difference is the level of economic growth. In a flat or near flat economy, there is no incentive to grow production. Things like futures, shorting, and being able to buy up and cannibalize companies for pure profit is vulture capitalism. Sure kike shills will tell you its 100% legal which absolves it of any moral shortcomings, but it breeds corruption and allows it to grow to a monstrous scale; and is partly the reason why things are so fucked today.

your second paragraph kind of debunks your first paragraph, so thanks for doing some of the work for me. to that i'll add that mom and pop stores don't need maximum and increasing profit at all times, they only need enough profit to get by. this is the difference between the privately owned business and the joint stock company.

also joint stock companies use pooled resources from politically-connected billionaires, which moves closer and closer to communism. think about it, when all the billionaires collectively own the company through hedge funds, AND they use lobbyists to get unfair advantages from the government (which you wrote wbout), how is that not getting closer and closer to communism? it's no wonder that the communist revolutions were funded by wall street bankers. lolbertarians don't have a serious answer to how we prevent pooled resources and unlimited wealth from simply buying out every avenue of political resistance, even down to the education system which is owned by these same people.

The guy I'm talking about has years and years of retail experience. It is not normal for him to struggle so much to find a job. He has no job and no money.
