It's not really justified or necessary, and was introduced for extremely cynical reasons, although obviously in all circumstances celibacy is strictly superior to sex.

Even if the Catholic Church allowed married priests in the Latin rite (There are married priests in the Eastern rites), they would have to be married before becoming a priest. A single man who is already a priest can't get married. If a married priest's wife dies, he can't remarry. A married priest also can't become a bishop.
