Does anybody else feel quietly cozy and pleased when they hear car manufacturers are suffering from a decline in sales, closing factories, laying staff off because they tried to shill EV's so hard when nobody wants them

Honda is not the same brand or car it was in the 90s.
Quality has dropped since the year 2000.
Same with toyota.
They both have been coasting on name recognition for far too long now and it's time we recognize they suck as bad a nissan.

Dunno - since all of my predictions are "things will go to shit", I'd really like to be wrong for once. I just never am on any of the big topics.
So it's not really "cozy and pleased", it's just indifference.
They could have known that this will happen. EVs are, for now, objectively inferior to ICEs. More than that, we have neither the infrastructure for everyone to use one if we forced them, nor even the resources to build enough EVs for everyone to have one.

It was always a plan that was going to spectacularly fail, but the retards in politics have grown too arrogant and believe their word to be some law of nature that can force reality into compliance.

let's look at the US car sales figures right now
>>
>>535138243
Not sure about Honda, but the German car manufacturers were pushing hard as fuck for those laws.
They did it in the past with our "cash for clunkers" equivalent that demolished the second hand market to force more people to buy new cars, and they thought they could make fat profits by forcing everyone to abandon their ICE and buy a new EV, too.
I don't think there was any lobby group that pushed for this harder than the big car manufacturers did over here.

I could even see some sense in wanting to switch over to electric. Electricity is the same no matter which source you used to produce it, so it makes you less dependent on specific resources from abroad.
But they tried to force it in the most retarded way possible, and for entirely greed-motivated reasons.
>>

>Biggest market for cars is USA
>Americans think nothing of driving 300 miles round trip for a day of mucking about
>Average EV gets less than 300 miles in peak conditions
>As such it's not an option for a lot of Americans

Couple that with new auto sales being shit in general because vehicle pricing outpaced earnings growth and it is far from shocking. If Honda released an electric car that could get 100 miles a charge, still easily got highway speeds, and was less than 10K? It would sell like fucking crazy as work commuter item.

If it matched gas car pricing, performance, and comfort with a 500 mile range in its worst setup? It MIGHT sell well, but that's still a gamble. I've put over 1,000 miles on road trips at least 50 times in my life.

Bozos like you is why many legacy brands will have a monumental struggle trying to catch up to EVs.
In China, most of the EU and EEC, and even some african nations, EVs have surpassed ICE car sales. Last couple years price parity happened with purchase prices.
EVs have much lower running and servicing costs. And no, batteries do not need to be changed after a couple of years, they normally outlast the car. Like ICE cars, shit happens now and then. That does not mean all will blow a piston through the cylinder wall.
BMW or Lucid make pricey cars for those boneheads who believe (wrongly) that you need to have 500 mile capacity per charge. Who the F drives that log without having lunch, or a coffee, take a leak, or have a look at a waterfall?

How the car is powered isnt the problem. It is everything else related to it
Gas cars
>cheap to produce
>will last as long as you if you take care of it
>Can fix it with simple tools
>Can be refueled in minutes at any location
Electric car
>expensive to produce
>need to spend 10-20k every 8-10 years for the battery alone
>designed to be expensive to repair
>can be hacked
>newer ones send data back to manufacturer so they can profit off selling it
>needs to be plugged in to charge

If there were electric cars that were designed like old gas ones, but they used swappable batteries rather than gas, they would be great

parity
>Global electric vehicle (EV) sales are growing rapidly, reaching over 17 million in 2024, which represents a 25% increase from 2023 and means roughly 1-in-5 new cars sold globally is now electric. In contrast, sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles peaked around 2017–2018 and are now in a terminal decline, with their market share falling from over 90% in 2019 to 57% by Q1 2025.

Bullshit, for one, maybe if you drive 55 in a 65. And also that's bullshit because GM EVs have notoriously wear-prone battery packs made of substandard, Chinese cells. So in a year you'll get 150 peak. And try not to quick charge - that kills your battery with excessive heat lol.

Come back in two years and tell us how great it's working out. You won't. You'll try to forget how badly you got bamboozled.

Why the fuck would you buy a Honda when you can buy a Tesla? Hondas are for old people and broke spics. That does not appeal to working people with a functioning brain who understand technology.

Car brands have their niche. They spend billions creating their brands. Then they try to break their own mold that they themselves have spent decades curating just to make a shitty knockoff of Tesla. That's why it doesn't work. That's why Ford failed too. They spent decades becoming the default redneck mobile for people who hate EVs and the environment in general. Then they made an EV. It's simple math, trump rolled back rules and regs, and mamnipulateed tarriffs, it fucked honda's aggressive investment in the worst car economt we've seen in a long time. But they have been reducing the quality of their "luxury" cars for a long time now, they were never going to make money best case they sell the same amount of cars. But they can't compete with BYD's prices, even in canada. A pure EV is always going to be a secondary car, if they want to hit new primary buyer they need hybrids, it was always absurd to invest billions in pure EVs, they lost billions because of their own hubris and stupidity.
The only thing keeping them from going bankrupt is 3rd worlders buying their bikes.
Toyota knew this and saved their asses because Toyota is actually fucking smart and knows shit. They survived the NA tariff apocalyse; They will survive the BYD apocalypse.
