The American Left has changed. More and more Democrats are identifying as socialist. Not only that, American leftists in the past distanced themselves from Marxist Leninism but these days, some American leftists like Hasan Piker are openly idolizing the Soviet Union and China

>>
>>535144062
Didn't those miracle happen after they opened up their markets to liberal economic reforms? As in capitalism?

People have no idea what's coming. Millenials- the most leftie of all generations- are only now getting inside the corridors of power as boomers are with one foot firmly in the grave and there aren't enough genXers to replace them. Politicians like Mamdani, Bernie and AOC will be seen as moderates once the left wing populism in the US really takes off and the concentration of wealth to increasingly smaller group of people finally breaks the camel's back. This also means that Israel is fucked, so it's not all bad news.

This is just what China is claiming, you can judge for yourself, but they claim to be guiding the development of capitalism into the future mode of production that comes after it, presumably communism, and that doing this is socialism. Part of left wing philosophy is looking at how production develops into different modes of production, different ways of organizing the owning, making, and distribution of things and the social structures that accompany this. So the classic example is the history of capitalism emerging from feudalism, changes in technology and the building of productive forces eventually forced social change in events like the glorious revolution in england, the french revolution. Instead of trying to skip capitalism entirely like the USSR attempted, which ended badly, China is attempting to develop it to its conclusion while maintaining socialist control of the process.

In the 90s people thought this was a cynical excuse for opening their economy and that they'd just keep the socilalist iconography for patriotic reasons, and that might have been true, but by now it's an open question under Xi who seems to believe in this stuff somewhat as far as outside observers can tell.
>>
>>535143497
Why is that a bad thing. The goal should be anti-liberalism by any means necessary
>>
>>535146142
I never said it was a bad thing

Finally, someone gets it.

The thing about Chinese official ideology is that the CCP is that they're not secretly fascist like some copium-huffers like to say. They're still heart-on-their-sleeve glory-to-the-people Marxists, they still believe that capitalism is evil and socialism is the future, they still believe in the global unity of all oppressed peoples against Western imperialism. The CCP has just abandoned the ambitions of abolishing tradition and markets, and they're pragmatic enough to tolerate and even take advantage of it as part of their near-term agenda of keeping the populace rich and happy.
>>
If socialism meant nothing to the Chinese, they would have let society keep liberalizing like it had been through the Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao era. But it didn't, under Xi, the state reasserted control in a big way, and the Chinese people love him for it. Xi-era culture in China is simply patriotically leftist, which is actually pretty common for leftist political movements outside of America.

Yes, but the subordination of markets to the state allows them to do things impossible in the West.

That's perfect. Get the people to give up on the sham that is "Capitalist Democracy" and embrace revolution
>>
>>535143497
To be fair, majority of public figures talking pro and cons about socialism has no idea what it even is when they claim nordic countries are socialist/communist nations.
