The moment you care, someone will take a photo of it and upload it with a caption about "lol omg look at this dude caring about the thing" and suddenly you're "that guy" who likes to do the thing. They have to have a layer of apathy around them as a self-defense mechanism in order to not be singled out and mocked. That's why they all have a layer of apathy around them in every aspect of their being; their baggy "I just threw on what I had lying around" fashion, their drugged-up idols, their nonsensical internet memes based around irony, their lack of generationally distinct subcultures, and so forth.In any other generation, this apathetic attitude would've been seen as "cool", because here you have a person who has all the motivation in the world to dedicate themselves to something and care about it, yet they choose not to and just be chill, that's cool. But for the zoomers, this apathy doesn't come from a world-weariness or a rebellion against the norm of caring about things, it comes from a place of pure fear of being singled out and mocked. That can never be cool. It's the antithesis of cool. It's false apathy, a mask hiding an individual who's so, so scared of being seen as someone who actually cares about anything.They are a generation doomed to be fake, gay, and cringe.
