On May 17th, a Russian tourist in his 30s was attacked by a bear while hiking in a forest in Okutama Town, Tokyo, Japan. He called 119, and a rescue team transported him to a hospital by helicopter. He sustained severe injuries to his arms and head. Authorities stated that he was not equipped with a bear bell or pepper spray. Police and local hunters searched for the bear, but it remains at large. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant.On May 19th, a human corpse of unknown age and sex was found in a mountainous area of Okutama Town, Tokyo. The upper half of the body was missing. Multiple footprints and feces from a large animal were discovered around the corpse. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department suspects that the animal damaged the remains. Since bears inhabit this region, police believe the person may have been attacked by a bear.
