These people are a manifestation of the times. The things that have happened to them could happen to anyone. I've befriended many a bum over the years, I've worked in soup kitchens and gone around the city handing out blankets, it's all pretty fun. I've even been homeless myself but only for a couple weeks and I had a car to sleep in. Even that was fucking shit awful. Good God talk about awful. You quickly learn if you go try to help that none of your work will save anyone or change anything, that these people have been through absolute hell and their lives are so wretched and full of misery the average person would shoot their own brains out before having to endure 30 days of their world. It is absolute HELL. I can't stress that enough. It's just totally staggering what a human being can end up with for a life, it keeps me up at night, it makes me question myself and everything about this world. It makes me hate this world. It makes me think "You know maybe getting a terminal illness at 35 wouldn't be so bad" because it means I can get the fuck out of this nightmare realm. Now there's more to life than homeless people and the terrors they manifest and endure, there's lots of awesome stuff too and fortunately by the grace of God my life has been fairly pleasant. Just, the fucking fact that people have exist in this state of filth, insanity, discomfort, violence and anguish is deeply upsetting to the soul. Uhhh... anyway thats my .02... give bums hot food and blankets if you want to help, don't give them cash. A nice meal means 30 minutes where they can forget about their hellish life and feel slightly human again, and they may also get a big boost from being acknowledged by another human being, because you can spend all night crying out for help at the top of your lungs on some street corners in America and nobody will come.

Trump said he wanted to round up the homeless and put them in camps, but he hasn't done anything even close to that so far. The "solution" to homelessness is always the same. Tons of federal money goes to states, where it gets funneled into the hands of administrators and silly projects like "the tiny home movement" and then nothing gets accomplished. The best solution to homelessness is for cities to just set aside some land and let the homeless people build their own shantytown slums. That's just how life works in the rest of the world. Brazil CAN'T incarcerate, rehabilitate, and house 11% of their population. When a rich person sleeps in a van at Burning Man it is seen as an artistic achievement, when a poor person wants to live in a wooden shack, he gets arrested and his possessions destroyed. People in shantytowns can actually own possessions and work at local businesses. There are actually jobs and businesses in these slums in other parts of the world, so the people don't sit around all day.
