This is known as reasonable articulable suspicion (RAS)If not lawfully detained by way of RAS, you are under whats called a "consensual encounter".Uner a consensual encounter, you are not legally obligated to (and must verbally express your non-consent to): - providing identification- searches or frisks- speaking or engaging with the officer (fifth amendment)- remaining in the presence of the officerRefusal to do comply is not an obstruction of investigation (cops might argue this), as you are not lawfully detained.Refusal of a field sobriety test is not probably cause for whatever you are accused of.Thats all ive got, what else should we know?
