In most corners of the modern 'net, you'll get people acting like you're supposed to be adhering to IRL social norms and even enforcing them by doing shady shit like recording surreptitiously and doxxing to an insane degree if you don't conform to the monoculture.When I was a kid, the Internet was a sort of wild west, Libertarian thing, with a mix of users of all ages. It was normal and expected that a board like /g/ or an IRC tech channel would have a mix of almost exclusively men aged anywhere between maybe 12 and 60, and it was almost embarrassing for someone on the younger end to admit that they were actually a child (even though it would sometimes be obvious).
