A woman has been jailed after attacking another woman with a knife outside a supermarket in Derby.Lisa Kelly, of Burton Road in Derby, stabbed the victim in the wrist outside Asda in Sinfin at about 20:35 GMT on 5 November 2025, prompting armed officers to attend.Derbyshire Police said Kelly, 40, claimed the victim's dog bit her during an altercation and that she stole a pack of knives from the shop to use as a "scare tactic", before injuring the woman with one of the knives.Kelly was jailed for three years and four months at Derby Crown Court on Thursday after admitting to grievous bodily harm without intent, theft and possession of a bladed article in public.Police said a member of the public had recorded the stabbing on their phone and flagged down an armed officer at the scene, who identified Kelly.Kelly was found and arrested three days after the attack, following a public appeal. She told officers she met the victim - who was also in her 40s - on the day of the attack and that they "had been drinking".The victim's injury was not life-threatening, police said.In a statement shared by the force, the victim said: "Directly after this incident my anxiety increased to the point I was not able to go out at all and I was unable to sleep."Insp Ben Wildman said: "The attack left the victim with a nasty physical injury and caused her a significant amount of distress."The assault was also carried out in a very public location and at a busy time that caused considerable concern within our community."I would like to pay tribute to the officers who responded to the incident quickly in order to secure the area and to the diligent work of the investigation team in bringing her to justice."The co-operation of shop staff and members of the public was also a key component in locating Kelly and helping to secure a successful conviction."
