oopsie

The European Parliament on Wednesday approved an amendment that criticised Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decision to rename an elite Ukrainian military unit after the World War II-era Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), a move that has sparked a diplomatic dispute with Poland.

>A large majority of MEPs voted in favor of the amendment, which expressed regret over the "recent unnecessary and unprovoked escalation" by the Ukrainian president, while recalling Poland's steadfast support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia's invasion.

>Wide support for condemnation in the Parliament
>The Parliament’s text expresses regret over what it calls “the disregard for Polish sensitivities and grief linked to the UPA’s estimated tens of thousands of victims and their families” in Zelenskyy’s decision.

Russia's economic engine is showing signs of sputtering as disruptions to its vital oil infrastructure begin to drag down broader macroeconomic performance.

According to a report by Nezavisimaya Gazeta, the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INP RAS) has markedly downgraded its 2026 outlook for the country's GDP. Based on data available in early July, forecasters have trimmed expected economic growth from a baseline of 1.5% down to a sluggish 1.1% for the year.

The revision stems from an accumulation of negative industrial pressures. Chief among the culprits is a decline in domestic petroleum output. The sudden loss of crucial oil refining capacities has disrupted supply chains and choked off industrial momentum.

However, the pain is not confined to the downstream oil sector. The downgraded forecast also reflects widening bottlenecks in export logistics, alongside a notable contraction in the extraction of iron ore and non-metallic minerals, such as sand and gravel. Together, these compounding factors present a sobering reality check for the Kremlin's economic planners.

Defying mounting pressure from the European Union, Serbia has confirmed it will not impose visa requirements on Russian citizens, an official announced this week.

Speaking at the INNOPROM 2026 industrial exhibition in Russia's Yekaterinburg, Nenad Popović, Serbia's minister for international economic cooperation, affirmed that the Balkan nation will maintain its open-door policy. Russian citizens can currently visit Serbia visa-free for up to 30 days. Popović highlighted the economic benefits of this policy, noting that Russian nationals accounted for the highest number of tourist arrivals in Serbia during the first half of 2026, buoyed by direct flights linking Belgrade to cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and Sochi.

The reassurance comes in the wake of June reports suggesting that Belgrade was quietly preparing to revoke the visa-free arrangement to align its foreign policy with Brussels—a mandatory step in Serbia's prolonged bid for EU membership.

Yet, while the border remains open, diplomatic rhetoric from Belgrade has grown increasingly complex. In May 2026, on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC security conference in Prague, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić starkly distanced her government from the Kremlin. Pushing back against the historical narrative of the two nations, Brnabić told Politico that she would no longer characterize relations with Moscow as "brotherly". Furthermore, departing from Russia's official designation of a "special military operation," she condemned the invasion of Ukraine as a "pure act of aggression and a clear violation of international law".

Russia’s dining industry is quietly shrinking what’s on the plate to keep its margins from disappearing entirely.

Battered by a severe labor squeeze, soaring food costs, and new tax burdens, Russian restaurateurs have slashed their menu offerings by 17% to 20% over the past year, according to a recent report by Izvestia. Establishments are aggressively optimizing their operations—stripping out niche, expensive, or labor-intensive dishes and simplifying core recipes in a desperate bid to maintain a balance between financial survival and customer expectations.

While top-line revenue across the hospitality sector has grown, underlying profitability is eroding. According to data from the National Credit Ratings (NKR) agency, average profit margins in the Russian restaurant business have slipped from 8.9% to 7.9%. Operating expenses in the first half of 2026 surged by 8% to 12% year-over-year, heavily driven by a structural deficit in skilled kitchen staff. Industry leaders note that local culinary colleges are currently supplying only 0.1% to 0.2% of the qualified chefs the market actually demands, forcing owners to inflate payrolls to retain their existing crews.

Furthermore, recent fiscal changes forcing some restaurants off the patent taxation system and onto the simplified tax system have deepened the financial strain. As a result, rather than passing the full brunt of these spiraling costs onto consumers—a move that risks killing already sluggish foot traffic—owners are choosing to rewrite the menu, ensuring the kitchen can survive on leaner resources without triggering a mass diner exodus.

Commuters in southern Russia's Rostov-on-Don may have noticed a sudden disappearance of the city's extra-large articulated buses, affectionately known as "accordions." However, local officials insist the fleet reduction is purely seasonal and entirely unrelated to the ongoing domestic fuel crisis.

According to Yevgeny Romantsov, the acting director of the city's Department of Transport, the municipal carrier Rostovpassazhirtrans temporarily pulled a portion of the high-capacity vehicles off the streets due to a routine summer drop in ridership as students go on break and residents depart for vacations or dachas. Instead, these units have been temporarily replaced by standard large-class buses to maintain efficiency.

Officials stressed that the extra-large buses have not completely vanished from the transit network. Currently, seven articulated buses remain operational across five key city routes (Nos. 4, 33, 35, 42, and 71). The Department of Transport assured residents that additional high-capacity vehicles will be returned from the garages to active service as soon as passenger demand dictates.

Russia’s largest financial institutions are actively laying the groundwork for a regulated domestic cryptocurrency market, racing to build the necessary digital infrastructure ahead of an impending legislative overhaul.

According to a report by Kommersant, Alfa-Bank has officially launched test trading for cryptocurrencies within its retail investment application and announced plans to establish a proprietary digital depository. State-backed heavyweights Sberbank and VTB, alongside fintech giant T-Bank, are similarly drafting roadmaps to roll out their own compliant crypto services.

The primary structural hurdle for these institutions is the development of digital depositories—highly secure, centralized systems mandated for the legal custody and accounting of digital assets. However, Russia's major credit organizations hold a significant operational advantage. Under the current draft of the legislation, top-tier banks will be permitted to seamlessly transform their existing Information System Operator (ISO) infrastructures into full-fledged digital depositories. Smaller market participants will be forced to either rent external platforms or build these complex custody systems from scratch.

The broader regulatory framework, legally titled the law "On Digital Currency and Digital Rights," seeks to tightly monitor crypto trading within the Russian financial system. Originally slated to take effect on July 1, parliamentary approval has been pushed back due to a massive influx of last-minute amendments. The law is now expected to formally come into force on September 1, 2026, targeting a full commercial rollout by the fourth quarter.

Russia’s education authorities have quietly overhauled the country’s new mandatory history textbooks for 12- and 13-year-olds, removing longstanding Soviet-era terminology in favour of language that closely mirrors the Kremlin's current ideological and geopolitical framing.

According to a detailed review of the latest 7th and 8th-grade curriculum by the RBC news agency, textbook authors have entirely scrapped the traditional Soviet concept of the “reunification of Ukraine with Russia” to describe the 1654 Pereyaslav Council. Instead, the updated text adopts imperial-era vocabulary, describing the event as the “voluntary reunification of the lands of Malorossiya [Little Russia] and the Zaporozhian Host with Russia.” Vladislav Kononov, the executive secretary of the unified textbook committee, dismissed the old Soviet phrasing as "artificial and inertial," claiming the new language reflects the stabilizing consensus of the modern academic community.

The revisions span multiple centuries of Russian history, consistently softening the aggressive nature of Tsarist expansion while reframing historical domestic oppression. For instance, sections covering Russia's 16th-century conquests in the Volga region no longer state that Moscow's rulers "strove to take over" the territories; instead, it is written that they merely sought to "establish their influence."

Similarly, authors have scrubbed the term "sovereign's kholops" [гocyдapeвы хoлoпы]—a historical concept describing subjects as virtual slaves entirely dependent on the Tsar—replacing it with a sanitized, bureaucratic division of "serving" and "tax-paying" people. The rhetoric surrounding the Livonian War has also been sharply escalated. The revised text now explicitly claims that the 16th-century rulers of Poland and Lithuania "hated Russians more than the Crimeans," a historical assertion that cleanly feeds into Moscow's contemporary narrative of entrenched Western Russophobia.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) claims to have foiled an "unprecedented" series of drone strikes and assassination plots allegedly orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence services against Russian military infrastructure and personnel.

In a statement released to state media on Thursday, the FSB detailed the disruption of a major espionage and sabotage operation targeting military sites, a leading military-industrial enterprise, and senior defence officials.

At the centre of the domestic security sweep is the arrest of a 25-year-old Russian woman in Moscow. Security officials accuse the woman, born in 2001, of aiding in an assassination plot against a high-ranking officer of the Russian Defence Ministry.

According to the FSB's account, the woman was initially recruited via WhatsApp in 2024 by a Ukrainian intelligence operative who feigned a romantic interest in her, promising that they would build a life together in Ukraine once her missions were complete. In March 2026, acting on his instructions, she allegedly rented an apartment in the Russian capital to serve as a safe house for a future assassin. There, she set up a live-streamed camera system to closely monitor the targeted officer's residence and vehicle, whilst also stockpiling food and disguises for the impending hitman.

Russian authorities stated the woman was supposed to flee to Ukraine via Turkey and Moldova before the attack took place. She is currently in custody, facing charges of preparing a terrorist act, with prosecutors indicating she may also face treason charges.

The entirety of the Russian-controlled portion of Ukraine's Kherson region has been plunged into a massive power outage, Russian-installed regional governor Vladimir Saldo announced on Thursday.

Writing on the Max messaging app, Saldo stated that all municipal districts in the occupied territory have been completely or partially left without electricity, adding that emergency crews have been deployed to attempt to restore the grid.

The blackout is the latest in a rapid succession of severe energy disruptions in the region. A similar mass outage struck the territory on July 4 following targeted Ukrainian drone strikes on local infrastructure.

In response to the compounding damage, Russian authorities declared a regional "man-made state of emergency" on July 7. The administrative measure is explicitly designed to bypass standard bureaucratic hurdles, allowing local officials to expedite repair work and rapidly procure heavy machinery and electrical equipment without standard tender procedures.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian military sources indicate that the persistent blackouts are the direct result of a systematic drone campaign by Kyiv's forces, designed to critically dismantle the energy networks supplying occupying Russian troops in southern Ukraine and the neighboring Crimean peninsula.

A Russian military-tech startup is attempting to capitalize on Volkswagen's domestic woes, launching a highly publicized recruitment drive aimed at poaching German auto engineers to plug severe personnel shortages in Moscow's defense industry.

The campaign was initiated by "Gagaring Laboratory" (КБ Гaгapинг), a Russian design bureau known for manufacturing the "Yurka" drone detectors and "Kuznechik" communication systems used by Russian frontline forces. In late June 2026, the company posted an open video invitation on Russian social networks, including Pikabu and VKontakte, directly addressing the estimated 100,000 Volkswagen employees facing potential layoffs worldwide. Promising high salaries and stable conditions, the pitch boasted: "We don't close factories; we build them".

While anonymous Russian defense insiders frame the maneuver to domestic media as a calculated "test drive" to quietly evacuate top-tier European talent—particularly "old school" design engineers and automation specialists—the effort heavily resembles a geopolitical PR stunt. Nonetheless, the initiative has caught the attention of the German alternative media sphere. The right-wing populist blog Journalistenwatch amplified the Russian offer, utilizing it to criticize Berlin's economic policies, the "green agenda," and warn of Germany's accelerating deindustrialization.

According to Russian military-industrial sources, if this "private initiative" succeeds in attracting disillusioned German specialists, similar targeted campaigns will be launched across other European industrial sectors battered by the energy crisis. However, despite claims of initial responses, it remains entirely unverified whether any VW engineers have actually accepted the Russian defense contractor's offer.

Sberbank, Russia’s dominant state-owned lender, continues to generate sweeping profits, delivering a robust half-year financial performance that underscores its central role in sustaining both the domestic equity market and the federal budget.

According to its latest earnings report under Russian Accounting Standards (RAS), the banking giant posted a net profit of 995.3 billion roubles for the first half of 2026, marking a 20.4 per cent increase year-on-year. In June alone, net profit reached 168.1 billion roubles, a 17 per cent rise from the previous year. The lender’s return on equity (ROE) stood at a formidable 23 per cent for the six-month period, comfortably exceeding the institution's own strategic target levels.

The bumper profits are being driven by a surge in core lending activity. Sberbank's net interest income for the half-year jumped 25.3 per cent to 1.8 trillion roubles. In June, the bank reported a notable 1.6 per cent monthly expansion in its retail loan portfolio, bringing it to 19.8 trillion roubles. Executive management attributed this sharp uptick primarily to a consumer rush to secure subsidised state mortgages ahead of an anticipated tightening of the government's housing programme.

Sberbank’s sheer scale and consistent yield have cemented its status as the bedrock of the isolated Russian financial market. Its equities remain the single most widely held asset among domestic retail investors, comprising an overwhelming 39.1 per cent of the Moscow Exchange's so-called "people's portfolio."

Crucially, the bank’s financial health is proving to be a vital lifeline for the Kremlin. At the annual general meeting on June 30, shareholders approved a record-breaking dividend payout for the 2025 fiscal year totalling 850.2 billion roubles, or 37.64 roubles per share. Because the Russian state holds a controlling stake in the lender, more than 425 billion roubles of that payout will flow directly into the federal budget this August, providing the government with substantial revenue amid intense macroeconomic pressures.

Trump’s Realpolitik and the Failure of Russian Deterrence

By Yury Baranchik

1/?

Watching the collapse of the rosy illusions held by many of my colleagues in Moscow—who apparently required an explicit, on-the-record declaration from Washington to finally grasp the reality of U.S. policy—yields several surprising observations. The primary one is this: Did anyone in the Russian political establishment seriously believe that the leader of the world's foremost hegemonic state, driven solely by the pursuit of power and resources, would suddenly treat us with reverence unless we systematically demonstrated our capacity to impose unacceptable costs on him?

The shock currently rippling through Moscow is palpable. It stems not from a sudden shift in American strategy, but from the glaring lack of diplomatic pretense at this week's NATO summit in Ankara. Washington is now openly broadcasting that Ukraine’s deep strikes into Russian territory are not accidental escalations, but deliberate instruments of American coercion. Such are the actions of our supposed "mediators."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s message was unmistakable: The United States is enabling Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia to force a faster conclusion to the war. President Donald Trump echoed this sentiment, framing the drone attacks on Russian oil refineries and infrastructure as a necessary escalation—one designed to hasten a resolution on terms overwhelmingly favorable to Washington.

2/?

Contrary to the persistent domestic belief that Russia is an exception to the rules of American grand strategy, the White House is executing its standard playbook. If Russia refuses terms that satisfy Washington, the U.S. will simply raise the geopolitical price of the conflict. This attrition extends beyond the Ukrainian theater, bleeding into the Russian homeland via targeted strikes on refineries, logistical hubs, energy grids, and the defense-industrial base. Had the U.S. not been simultaneously distracted by renewed tensions with Iran, further economic sanctions would likely have followed.

The supreme irony is that Moscow has long insisted that any diplomatic settlement must reflect the realities "on the ground." Trump has essentially adopted this framework. However, his definition of the "ground" expands beyond the Donbas frontline; it encompasses blazing Russian refineries, fuel shortages, rear-echelon vulnerabilities, and the mounting domestic cost of sustaining the war effort.

This presents a stark conflict with the so-called "Spirit of Anchorage." Trump is undoubtedly eager to broker a deal, but strictly one that maximizes American leverage. He is not advocating for a ceasefire to facilitate quiet diplomacy; he is orchestrating a maximum-pressure campaign, calculating that structural pain will render Moscow more malleable. It is baffling that any Russian strategist ever harbored the delusion that Trump would prioritize foreign interests over his own transactional victories.

The strategic imperative for Moscow is now clear, and we must abandon the obsolete doctrine of "red lines." Issuing hollow threats of "unprecedented consequences" after every Western escalation—without corresponding kinetic action—has reduced Russian deterrence to mere white noise, easily dismissed by policymakers in Washington and Brussels.

The defining strategic question of this phase of the conflict is how to make these deep strikes prohibitively expensive for their Western architects. The answer lies in tangible results, not rhetorical patience. Russia must demonstrate the capacity to inflict direct, symmetrical damage. Hardening domestic energy infrastructure and degrading Ukraine's military capabilities will not deter the West. True deterrence requires striking the West itself. Russia must impose practical, rather than theoretical, costs on the United States and Europe. This necessitates a strategy of degrading Western logistical and infrastructural "rears" and explicitly targeting European military assets and personnel.
>>
>>538619981
4/4

If we lack the operational capability or political will to execute this, then we have already lost the war. Trump is fundamentally a merchant of pressure. If he perceives that coercion against Russia is effective, he will relentlessly amplify it. He will only seek alternative diplomatic off-ramps if that pressure fails or introduces unacceptable risks to the American homeland.

The core threat is not that Trump and Rubio have discarded diplomatic tact. The true peril lies in the fact that Washington is actively stress-testing Russia’s retaliatory mechanisms. They are probing our strategic resolve. If Moscow fails to respond symmetrically, the current campaign against our oil refineries will be merely the prologue. The pressure will inevitably metastasize to encompass the entirety of our transportation, industrial, and energy sectors—everything underpinning Russia's wartime resilience. If we choose passive endurance, the bombardment will only intensify. In geopolitics, your adversary only plays the hand you permit them to.

Return to Sender: Russia’s futile attempt to save its national postal service

1/2

On July 8th, the State Duma passed sweeping legislation ostensibly designed to “save” Russian Post. To call it a rescue, as the Duma’s speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, proudly did, is rather telling. It is less a resurrection and more a state-mandated attempt to artificially prolong the life of an obsolete business model.

The immediate reaction to the new law among market observers is one of weary familiarity. Imagine an ancient Lada, patched up a hundred times, being given a fresh coat of paint straight over the rust and fitted with a cheap Chinese sat-nav. That is roughly the state of the Russian postal monopoly today.

The government heralds a new era of modernization: digital mailboxes, electronic utility bills, and integration with Gosuslugi, the state digital services portal. While digitization is usually a welcome step, these flashy add-ons conveniently ignore the fundamental question: why did the postal monolith find itself on the brink of financial collapse in the first place?

Russian consumers did not abandon the state provider because it lacked a sleek app. They defected to private logistics upstarts that offer faster delivery, streamlined processing, and vastly superior customer service. As Russia’s e-commerce and logistics markets have surged into the 21st century, Russian Post has remained stubbornly anchored in the past.

Consequently, the legislation looks less like a structural reform and more like a desperate revenue grab. By granting the company a monopoly on legally significant digital communications, forcing businesses to pay a mandatory subscription fee for digital inboxes, and securing its grip on state pension deliveries with an increased commission rate, the state is ensuring a steady cash flow irrespective of the company's operational efficiency. Those with long memories will recall the company's previous flailing efforts to make ends meet, when post offices abruptly began peddling pasta, tinned sprats, and household detergent. It was a spectacular failure.

Throwing additional state powers and captive revenue streams at a broken business model is like hooking an IV drip up to a corpse already showing signs of rigor mortis. What the enterprise desperately needed was radical restructuring, not a heavy dose of financial embalming fluid to mask the stench of decay.

Ultimately, the newly minted law is not designed to forge a modern, competitive Russian Post. It is a life-support system for the old one. And, as is customary with such bureaucratic experiments, the bill will inevitably be footed by the Russian public.

There won't be a working refinery and more than 50 tanks left west of the Urals if this goes on as is for 8-12 more months. I say as is because the Ukies might be able to reliably strike even farther than Omsk within these 8-12 months.
Tanker ships are a sitting duck in the Azov Sea and I believe they'll be able to hit Novorosisk on the regular some months from now. Losing them is bad news not only for Crimea but the whole so-called the russia, as they are shadow fleet ships.

War Fatigue Hits a Tipping Point in Russia as Support for the Military Plummets

1/?

For years, the Kremlin has relied on a seemingly unshakeable pillar of domestic stability: the Russian public's resilient, if passive, support for the war in Ukraine. But newly released data suggests that this foundational consensus is beginning to crack under the weight of the conflict's mounting domestic costs.

According to a June 2026 survey released on July 7 by the Levada Center—Russia's last remaining independent pollster, which the government has labeled a "foreign agent"—support for the Russian armed forces has suffered a sudden and unprecedented drop.

The poll indicates that 67 percent of respondents still back the military (35 percent "definitely" and 32 percent "rather" supporting it), but this represents a steep seven-point plunge from May. Meanwhile, outright opposition surged eight points to 24 percent. For a country where state sociologists routinely recorded baseline military support above 75 percent for over four years, this shift marks a profound qualitative change in the public mood.

Simultaneously, the appetite for a diplomatic off-ramp is widening. Nearly two-thirds of respondents (64 percent) now favor a transition to peace negotiations, a four-point increase in a single month. Only 29 percent wish to press forward with combat operations.

The findings were analyzed this week by the influential Russian political Telegram channel Nezygar, which consulted with domestic sociologists who described a population succumbing to cumulative exhaustion. The experts pointed to a glaring lack of recent, tangible battlefield victories, which has sapped the rallying effect that sustained the public early on.

Furthermore, the Kremlin’s relentless, high-decibel propaganda is yielding diminishing returns. While state television successfully consolidated public opinion during the invasion's initial phases, its triumphalist rhetoric and continuously shifting goalposts are now generating a backlash. Notably, analysts observe that the deepest disillusionment is taking root among the most loyal, pro-war demographics, whose expectations for a swift and decisive victory have collided with the grinding reality of a protracted war of attrition.

The public is also decisively rejecting apocalyptic escalation. The Levada poll found that 60 percent of Russians believe the use of nuclear weapons cannot be justified under any circumstances. While 29 percent would theoretically accept a nuclear strike, that figure is well below the peak of 39 percent recorded in November 2024.

Yet, public attention to the war has not faded; rather, its focus has shifted from the frontlines to the home front. According to independent sociologists, while Russians largely tuned out the distant trench warfare in late 2025 and early 2026, a recent intensification of Ukrainian drone strikes deep inside Russian territory has violently dragged the conflict back into the spotlight.

The Levada data coincides with broader, systemic domestic tremors. Other polls from late June and early July 2026 show President Vladimir Putin's own approval ratings suffering their steepest drop since the chaotic military mobilization of September 2022, tumbling to 74 percent amid an escalating domestic fuel crisis triggered by the strikes on Russian refineries.

As the war forcefully inserts itself into the daily lives of ordinary Russians—bringing with it fuel shortages, burning infrastructure, and mounting fears of a second wave of military mobilization—the Kremlin is facing an electorate that is increasingly anxious, disillusioned, and acutely aware that the costs of the conflict are finally coming home.

Ukraine's Presidential Office head condemns Lviv mob attack on draft officers

The Head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, Kyrylo Budanov, strongly condemned a violent mob attack against military recruiters in the western city of Lviv on Thursday, calling for swift law enforcement intervention.

The incident occurred late Wednesday evening in Lviv's Sykhiv district when a crowd clashed with personnel from a Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC) following the detention of a draft evader. Footage from the scene showed civilians blocking, attacking, and ultimately overturning a military service vehicle.

"If you tear off clothes and beat a serviceman of your own army, think about who will protect you tomorrow from the enemy army, which will beat and tear off clothes just the same, but from you," Budanov stated on the Telegram messaging app. "I expect a fair reaction from law enforcement agencies to the events in Lviv."

The unrest underscores the mounting domestic friction over military mobilization efforts as the protracted war continues. Local authorities, including Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi, have also unequivocally condemned the violence. According to local police, the catalyst for the clash was the detention of a 30-year-old man who had been wanted for military service evasion since mid-June.

Russian Region Demands 'Honesty' from Big Oil as Fuel Crisis Sparks Night-Long Queues

The governor of Russia's Lipetsk region issued a stark public rebuke to domestic oil majors on Thursday, demanding accurate reporting on fuel deliveries as a worsening gasoline shortage forces motorists to camp overnight at dry service stations.

Governor Igor Artamonov specifically addressed industry giants including Lukoil PJSC, Rosneft PJSC, and Gazprom Neft PJSC, urging them to immediately boost supplies and establish transparent communication with the region's crisis management headquarters. The public dressing-down highlights the mounting domestic economic fallout from Ukraine’s sustained drone campaign against Russian oil refineries.

"It is impossible to accept a situation where company representatives declare their readiness to supply operating gas stations... and just a few hours later, residents see the opposite picture: closed stations, no gasoline, and queues where people stand all night," Artamonov stated, emphasizing that if supply logistics fail, regional authorities and residents must be informed directly and in advance.

The Lipetsk region is currently grappling with a daily gasoline shortfall of approximately 500 tons. According to the governor, most Lukoil and Teboil stations in the region have been forced to shut down entirely, placing the overwhelming burden on the remaining operational Rosneft outlets.

In a desperate bid to stabilize the market and curb panic buying, the regional operational headquarters announced it will ration gasoline sales based on odd and even license plate numbers starting July 11. The emergency measure follows similar rationing protocols recently rolled out in neighboring territories, including the Nizhny Novgorod and Oryol regions, as local governments scramble to prioritize fuel access for emergency responders and vital municipal services.

EX-COP MASSACRES POLITICIAN WIFE’S FAMILY AMID MESSY DIVORCE IN RUSSIA

A bitter divorce over property and custody of three children culminated in a horrific bloodbath Thursday when an ex-cop slaughtered three of his politician wife's relatives.

Evgeny Utesov, 44, went on a murderous rampage inside a private home on 1st Kotelnaya Street in the southern Russian city of Taganrog. He viciously stabbed his 64-year-old father-in-law to death before turning a "Saiga" hunting carbine on his 60-year-old mother-in-law and 86-year-old grandmother-in-law.

The disgraced former policeman was in the middle of a vicious divorce from Oksana Utesova, a local City Duma deputy, with whom he previously ran a driving school business. Sources told the Baza Telegram channel that the couple was locked in a nasty dispute over joint assets and custody of their three children.

Following the nighttime massacre, Utesov allegedly fled the grisly, burning crime scene in a getaway car alongside his 69-year-old father, Leonid. The escape prompted local police to activate a sprawling "Interception" dragnet across the region.

The suspected family annihilator didn't stay on the run for long. He was tracked down and captured hours later in the Proletarsky district of neighboring Rostov-on-Don. Authorities are still aggressively hunting for his father to determine his exact role in the slayings.

Utesov is no stranger to the dark side of the law. He was reportedly booted from the police force years ago for trying to cover up his own involvement in a violent 2002 assault.

Russia’s FSB says it thwarted Ukrainian plot to assassinate senior defense official with a drone

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Thursday that it has arrested a man in the southern city of Krasnodar who was allegedly plotting to assassinate a high-ranking Russian Ministry of Defense official in Moscow on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence.

According to the FSB's Public Relations Center, the 48-year-old Russian national was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in February 2026. He was reportedly coerced into cooperation under the threat of his wife facing criminal prosecution in Ukraine. The man, who had previous criminal convictions in Russia for theft and robbery, had been living in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro with his family prior to his recruitment.

The suspect allegedly planned to attack the senior military official outside his multi-story residential building in the Moscow region using a drone armed with an improvised explosive device containing 600 grams of explosives and shrapnel.

Russian authorities stated that the man underwent firearms and explosives training before traveling to Russia via a circuitous route through Moldova and Armenia. Upon arriving in Moscow, he rented an apartment near the target's residence, installed two remote video surveillance cameras, and acquired disguises, including a fake beard, mustache, and glasses.

The FSB claims the suspect has confessed to cooperating with Ukrainian intelligence. Authorities recovered the bomb, the surveillance equipment, disguises, and a mobile phone containing communications with his SBU handlers.

The arrest was described by the state security service as part of a broader operation to thwart an "unprecedented" series of Ukrainian sabotage plots against Russian military infrastructure, defense-industrial enterprises, and personnel.

First two were accepted (found 800 bodies - more or less the number matched polish calculations), then denies 9 requests and for 15 more ukraine didn't even bother to write back. In 2017 ukraine closed talks althogether, to open again after the war started. Unfortunatelly the cooperation is going as expected (separate permit for search and exhumation, 60 days to respond - which Ukrainian offices use almost entirely, no consent for search in some locations).

Ukraine's defence ministry condemns Lviv mob attack, vows to improve draft methods

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence has strongly condemned a violent mob attack on military recruiters in the western city of Lviv, while publicly acknowledging that the country's controversial mobilisation methods require structural reform.

In a formal statement released on Thursday, the ministry branded the previous evening's unrest in Lviv's Sykhiv district—during which a crowd clashed with police and overturned a Territorial Recruitment Centre (TCC) vehicle—as strictly "unacceptable."

"The position of the Ministry of Defence is consistent: everyone is equal before the law," the statement read. "Responsibility must follow in any case of violence and aggression." The ministry urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly identify and prosecute the civilians involved in the riot, warning that stoking domestic hatred against the armed forces only serves to benefit Russia.

However, alongside the condemnation, the defence ministry offered a rare public concession regarding the systemic friction caused by the domestic draft. "Mobilisation is a necessary component of the defence of Ukraine," the ministry acknowledged. "Its methods need improvement, and this process is ongoing."

I think the 90 billion to Ukraine from the EU was over 2 years (this year and next). So 45 billion each year. NATO is giving 70 billion this year and 70 billion at least next year. These numbers are getting ridiculous. So over 2 years, 230 billion is going to Ukraine, at least.
What hope do the subhumans have against such deep pockets?

Meet 'Malyutka': Russia's Pink, Hello Kitty-Themed Interceptor Drone

At first glance, it looks like a customized toy you'd buy at a Sanrio pop-up shop. But the bright pink quadcopter-hybrid plastered with Hello Kitty decals currently sitting in a glass case at the "Drone Expo 2026" in Kazan is actually Russia's newest weapon for counter-UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) warfare.

Dubbed the Malyutka ("Little One"), this bizarrely branded interceptor drone was unveiled this week by the Russian firm Advanced Aviation Systems. According to its creators, the kawaii aesthetic isn't just a marketing gimmick for the trade show floor—they genuinely intend to send it into active combat looking exactly like that.

According to Andrey Smirnov, the head of the company's UAS flight test center, the Malyutka is purpose-built to hunt and destroy small aerial targets, primarily enemy drones, at close range.

Beneath the hot-pink paint job and cartoon cat stickers are some distinctly lethal specifications. Developers claim the interceptor features an automated targeting system capable of locking onto enemy drones from up to a kilometer away. It boasts a maximum flight range of 12 kilometers and can hit top intercept speeds of 250 km/h (155 mph), with a loitering speed of 140 km/h. Once it closes in on its prey, the Malyutka delivers a localized kinetic punch, carrying a warhead of up to 300 grams to blast enemy tech out of the sky.

As drone-on-drone dogfights become an increasingly standard feature of modern warfare, the demand for fast, expendable interceptors is skyrocketing. But whether the Malyutka will actually dominate the airspace—or if it's just vaporware wrapped in copyrighted Japanese cartoon IP—remains to be seen.

Vladimir Region Still Lacks Strategy to End Crippling Fuel Crisis

Authorities in Russia's Vladimir region have yet to finalize a concrete plan to resolve an escalating fuel shortage, according to an official government response provided to the local news outlet Zebra TV on Thursday.

Over three weeks into a debilitating gasoline crisis—exacerbated by a drop in domestic refining capacity—the regional government’s press service admitted it is still only "developing a complex of measures" in coordination with the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) and the Russian Ministry of Energy.

The logistical collapse has severely impacted the region's public sector. In late June, numerous state institutions—including local hospitals, schools, and civil defense services—were left unable to procure gasoline for the third quarter and the second half of the year. State procurement tenders failed entirely after no suppliers submitted bids, presumably unwilling to lock in state contracts amid severe supply constraints and market volatility.

Regional officials have stated that until the situation normalizes, "priority fuel supplies" will be directed to emergency responders, communal services, public transport, and agricultural producers. However, local journalists noted that the government's official response was written in the future tense, casting doubt on whether these vital public services have actually received their guaranteed fuel allocations yet.

It is what it is. It's weird for Ukraine to suffer such a massive sacrifice, yet willingly refuse the possibility of joining EU afterwards. Where's the point? If they share cultural values with Russians, want to glorify individuals like Butcha murderer's - why fighting them? Shouldn't they join forces together and invade evil NATO with hyena Poland? Counterproductive. I hoped what we did to support Ukraine in their struggle - housing refugees, letting their women and children use our welfare system while their men fight. Sending our tanks, airplanes, SPGs and APCs, while others politely sent helmets. Diplomatically convincing each and everyone to help Ukraine and keep raising funds. I thought it could be enough to make some amends for the past events. Alas, they view us as enemies after all. Every effort wasted. It was worth trying. But. It is what it is.
