they have no reason to mine
why do people even talk about mines like it's a serious thing around here? we should know better by now, how long has this confrontation been going on? two weeks? 2x two weeks? two weeks^2?
why would they mine the strait they want to organize traffic through? it's always been a last resort if they can't exert actual control over the strait traffic to simply deny any and all traffic, which is counter to Iran's goals

Always these same post about the SPR. Riddle me this, if the USA is so dependent on the SPR, why does Western Canadian Select sell for a discount compared to what it sells for in Asia? Answer, there's plenty of supply in the US, the SPR is useful for price stability and as a one-two punch where Trump does a Truth then some SPR is released. However, draining it is not gonna lead to Armageddon.

I'm not even in a position to question anything that Iran does in the strait. The MOU clearly assigns the arrangement of the strait exclusively to Iran. By definition anything they do in the strait is the right thing to do because they decided to do it, and the MOU gives them the authority to decide that. For me to criticize what they are doing is for me to try to rewrite the MOU as if it somewhere says that I will play a part in arranging the strait. It says nothing of the kind, and I see no reason to pretend it does.

Rather, I take whatever Iran does as being, according to the MOU, what should be done. I think that if someone wanted to try to get around this, the place they would go is to signing the MOU in the first place, where Iran was given sole jurisdiction of the strait. Given that the US considers Iran to be terrorists, it boggles the mind that they would sign an agreement that delegated sole decision-making power over the strait to Iran. But that's what they did.

But now it seems the US does not like the terms of the MOU that it signed. I suspect that the reason for this is because Americans as a people are functionally illiterate and probably didn't understand what the MOU said, and even now when it is pointed out to them, they still don't understand it.

Given this situation, I think the UN may need to make some kind of decision about a conservatorship for the United States, since if the United States cannot understand any of the agreements it signs, it should not be able to sign any agreements.

it took months to demine the coast of kuwait after the iraq war but im not sure iran spent remotely as many resources mining the strait
if they wanted to, they could probably make the strait functionally impassable for months with intensive mining (they have tens of thousands of naval mines in inventory) but that would constitute a sort of scorched earth tactic in the opinions of their gulf neighbors and they arent resorting to that yet
>>
>>538725822
>1000 missiles

>>
>>538726134
I don't think it does. But if it did, then it would be up to Iran to decide how they protect commercial ships. If Iran says it means shooting them, then it means shooting them. That's what the MOU says: Iran will make the arrangements for the strait.

Americans seem to want that part to go away, like a tranny who wants to cut off his dick so he can be a woman.

I don't think that's what that says. It says the traffic through the US blockade will be in proportion to the restoration of traffic by Iran. I think what that means, is that if Iran restores traffic to 50% of prewar, then in proportion, the US blockade will allow 50% of ships through. Isn't that what it's saying there in Article 4?

>4. Immediately upon the signing of this MoU, the United States of America will begin the removal of its naval blockade and any disturbances or impediments against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and will fully end the naval blockade within 30 days. During this period, the traffic of vessels will be in proportion to the numbers of pre-war traffic being restored by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

why is there absolutely no such section of time wherein this could have occurred because Iran turns back or attacks US ships attempting to make the trip, and yet such a claim is being made with such ferocity?

I think way more tankers were going through the strait in March-June than people thought. Otherwise there would be a bigger problem than we currently have.

It must have been known in the strait that tankers were going out, because it would have been 5-10 tankers a day to make up the oil that was never actually short. Maybe they did know it, but because there are no journalists, the information never got out, and everyone still thinks the strait was closed for 100 days and oil is back to prewar prices.

OK, look at the numbers.

The strait closure cut 20 mb of supply per day, for 100 days, so 2,000 mb.

US total crude stocks (including SPR, Cushing, and all the PADDs) is down only 100 mb.

That leaves 1,900 mb not covered, meaning China would have to have drained their reserves by 19 times what the US did. I think that's too much. Even double or triple would be a lot, but 19 times is not credible.

If you add up every source that filled the gap, it might come to 10 mb per day, or 1 billion, which would still leave a 1 billion barrel gap, and the reality on the ground does not support that that ever happened. So I think there were way more tankers getting out than anyone thought. Normal was 25 ships. I think 10 to 15 were getting out every day, and no one knew it. Well, the people in the gulf knew it, but it never got out to the western news-consuming public.

I think there was something wrong with their information. Ships were getting out, and they weren't seen. It's the only way to explain why there is no gap at all. Even with all the things that cover the shortage, it wouldn't have covered 20 mb per day, but somehow it did. That's because the shortage wasn't 20 mb per day. It was maybe 10 mb per day, meaning 10 mb was getting out per day, so half the normal ships, which were 25, so about 12 tankers were getting out per day.

USA doesnt import that much crude from the middle east the ONLY reason our stocks drained at all is because we could squeeze out a little more exports to help the rest of the world
you need to be paying attention to japanese, korean, and chinese strategic reserves to make the math work

you are looking at the stock drawdown of a country that is very close to self sufficient with its own production and the production of immediate neighbors like canada and mexico and wondering why the strait closure didnt tank their stocks...

Yeah, so remember all those early predictions about $150 barrel oil. Those predictions were right, for the assumed circumstances, which was closure of the strait. If the strait was actually closed, that's what would have happened. There was no way to avoid it. Even China's reserves would not be able to cover the 2 billion shortage.

Where the predictions went wrong was in assuming the strait was closed. It wasn't. It was only half closed, and half open. If the predictions had been made knowing that, they would have been more consistent with what happened instead of the exaggerated numbers based on bad assumptions.

I forgot to mention that the east west pipeline increased by 5 mb, originally they didn't have the infrastructure to ship it all out quickly but that's probably been addressed by now
>>
>>538728446
He also said more tankers must have been getting out of the strait than was originally thought. That's what I'm saying right now. It think that's a bigger part of it. The demand destruction wasn't big enough to match the 2 billion barrel shortage. That's because there wasn't a 2 billion barrel shortage. it was just 1 billion, meaning 10 million barrels of oil were getting out of the strait every day, which would have required about 12-15 tankers, every day, and no one outside of the strait ever knew it because there are no journalists left in the world to report such things.
>>
>>538728517
china is not exporting fuck all. but various countries other than the US have strategic petroleum reserves (the ones of south korea and japan in particular are pretty big) and the IEA coordinated a release of 400 million barrels from 32 countries
most of asia and chunks of europe have fuel rationing ranging from minor to total. there are millions of bpd of demand destruction in asia. its hard to come up with a scenario where millions of barrels per day were sneaking through the strait

and chinese reserves are a completely different thing, but they also refuse to export crude OR fuel. so its possible china just stopped importing through the strait with knocks another couple mpd off the whole thing

Yeah, that 400 included the US, so over the 100 days of closure, that would have covered 4 mb of the 20 mb shortage, leaving 16 mb shortage. Then maybe China coves another 400 all by itself, leaving 12 mb per day, summing up to a 1.2 billion barrel shortage, which is the size of about 4 of America's SPRs, which is at about 320 mb now.
>>
>>538728576
https://energynow.com/2026/07/world-absorbs-historic-iran-war-oil-supply-loss-but-depleted-stocks-bring-risks/

according to this article the IEA estimates a total 1 billion barrel drawdown of inventories outside of china since the crisis started.
when you combine that with unknown chinese drawdowns and demand destruction, the total shortage is probably pretty close to 2 billion. so no, there wasnt like 15 tankers sneaking per day

>>
>>538728690
I don't know how it happened. I just know, we got to the end of the thing, and it's like nothing happened. The thing that got my attention was when I saw that US crude stocks were only down 100 mb, when the overall shortage is 2,000 mb. That meant reserve drawdowns were nowhere near big enough to match the shortage. I had thought stocks must be down much more, but they're not: just 100 mb. That's verifiable fact. So when I go to the shortage which is supposed to be 2,000 mb, it is only speculation that it was that big, so I doubt it and think way more oil was getting out.
>>
>>538728821
do you understand how the SPR actually works?
the oil is pumped into literal salt mines in louisiana. Then, water is pumped into the caverns to pressurize the oil to get it back out. The more water you add, the more the salt caverns dissolve. And eventually you will collapse the caverns and destroy the storage structure.
>>
>>538728863
commercial storages in the USA are at lows right now but I wouldn't expect the USA to collapse before the various asian niggers who imported 80 percent of their oil through the strait

Iranian Television: Iran is not willing to continue negotiations due to the United States' failure to comply with agreements with Tehran.
---
In an unusual move, the Trump administration has subpoenaed journalists from The New York Times to testify before a federal grand jury. This follows the newspaper's report this week that Trump was forced to change planes during takeoff from Ankara due to security concerns.

"The very fact that federal law enforcement officials are showing up at the homes of journalists should shock the conscience of every American who believes in the Constitution and the freedom of the press it protects," said the legal counsel for the newspaper's news division in a statement. "Our journalists are reporting the facts and upholding the public's right to know how their government operates and how their tax dollars are being spent."

"This blatant act should be seen for what it is: an attempt to prevent the public from knowing what is happening in their country, by intimidating journalists and deterring them from doing their jobs," the statement continued.

Read what the article actually says:

>And countries around the world likely pulled around 1 billion barrels of oil from their reserves
>likely

They are just guessing, or inferring: well, 1 billion barrels are short, so the countries must have drawn down by 1 billion barrels. That's what I had been thinking too, that the reserves must have covered it. But then I looked at the total reduction in US oil stocks: only 100 mb.

There is no way that the US drew down 100 mb, and the rest of the countries in the world drew down the remaining 900 mb. It's more like 400 total for the US and other countries That still leaves 600 mb of the 1 billion shortage, when the real shortage is 2 billion, and China would have to cover the other half. It's way too much. The shortage is only half of what everyone thought it was going to be. And that means half the usual number of ships was getting through every day, and that would be 12 ships per day. That's just the physical and mathematical reality of what happened.

By oil use it is by far the largest, using 20% of the world's oil. Proportionally, if the US released 100 mb, then the rest of the world would have released 400 mb. I don't think it was that much. I think they only released 300, for a total of 400 with the US 100.

And so of a 2,000 mb shortage, 400 mb would be covered, leaving 1,600 uncovered. Throw China in for another 400 mb, thus matching the whole rest of the world, including the US, and still 1,200 of shortage is left, or 12 mb per day. So put in the pipeline redirect, and the demand destruction, and the floating storage, and you still have about 10 mb per day not covered, or 1,000 mb.

That's how much oil was getting out every day: 10 mb, and it was getting out on 12 ships every day. It's a scandal that no one even knows this, but the math and physics prove it.
>>
>>538728402
sure, but we (everyone but iran) need enforceable guarantees about the nuclear and missile programs and an end to their proxies. they were close to establishing a credible conventional deterrent, at which point they could freely finish off their 99% completed nukes, and then our mutual concerns about commerce would be at the mercy of proven pirates - and we wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

Now Iran is confirmed to be sending its foreign minister in person to negotiate, while the US issues threat after threat and has already bombed Iran twice in the past week. One side (the US) is escalating, the other (Iran) is de-escalating. Call it Izzat, but I call it the US being confident while Iran has lost its confidence and is hoping (in vain) to buy its own survival.

I should preface this by saying that while I do hate Israel, I intend for this analysis to be purely objective. It is often claimed that Israel is in its strongest position ever or that Israel doesn't need the US to help prop it up for a myriad of reasons, but I find these assumptions ridiculous, and I have three things to point towards in order to corroborate my view. Israel's demographics, its international relations, and its geography.
>>
Let's start with the demographics, at a first glance it would seem that Israel actually has outstanding fertility rates for a first world nation with a tfr of about 3 children per women. However, this total does not account for the differences in birth rates between different religious groups within Israel. Among the secular jews of the country 2 children per women is the average, in line with the rest of the developed world, which means that their positive birthrates are caused almost solely by the haredi jews which have an astonishing 6 children per women on average. Why does this matter? Because Israel as a country is held together by its secular majority and has been since its founding. They are responsible for their tech sector, they comprise the majority of soldiers in the IDF, and they overall contribute heavily to the Israeli economy. In comparison with haredim which are exempt from enlistment, fairly uneducated outside of the Torah, and oftentimes do not even work (while recieving stipdeds from the government mind you), they are not exactly an enticing replacement. This problem is only worsened by the severe brain drain Israel is currently experiencing, losing around 200,000 people to emigration from 2023 to now, the majority of them highly educated professionals. Funnily enough this has formed a sort of negative feedback loop where younger Israelis steadily get more and more reactionary which causes more of the wealthy urbanite liberals to decide to just up and leave. On top of this, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza still outpace Israelis as a whole on fertility with around 3 and half kids per women, which brings me onto my next point.

International pressure and the west's innevitable decoupling with Israel is an often neglected point when it comes to discussions on the topic, with most mentions being handwaved away as irrelevent due to the prospect of other powerful countries (namely Russia or China) picking up Israel in lieu of the west. This is obscenely short sighted for a big reason nobody seems to wanna mention, the extreme cost of the US's cultish devotion to Israel extends beyond merely the direct military aid we give them, and it is just not worth it. Yes, it is true that Israel could survive without the billions it gets annually from the US (although not easily like some pretend they could), but what about the billions in direct aid we give to Egypt and Jordan to placate them and ensure they don't stir the pot with Israel? What about the f35 parts, refueling tankers, and THAAD missiles that are all placed in the region in order to protect them from Iran? Most importantly, what about the US's commitment to utilize its UNSC veto in order to protect Israel from sanctions? Our entire military posture in the middle east is designed primarily around two things, securing gulf oil and protecting Israel, neither Russia nor China has the capability or even the will to replace the US as Israel's main benefactor when it comes to all these things. Not to mention that any potential technology and intelligence sharing (which I will admit the US does benefit from, not enough to justify our ridiculously one-sided relationship with Israel mind you) would immediately be nullified by Russia and China's muslim allies in the region pressuring them not to do so, neglecting Iran, if the GCC and Egypt could divest from Israel without jeapordizing their relations with the west, they would. Hell, Russia and China already have significant muslim minority populations in breakaway regions that they routinely have trouble quelling, they could never get away with the naked and brazen support for Israel that we can.

Israel does not have an enviable position on the map, chief among the reasons for this are the neighbors it constantly antagonizes (yes, even the dictatorships it ostensibly has peace with). Much like South Africa was, Israel is a nuclear armed rogue state surrounded by enemies it has made, but unlike the South Africans the Israelis have a huge absence of natural resources they can utilize as leverage or as a way to become self sufficient for a few decades. For instance, it is often claimed that if Israel were backed into a corner militarily it would simply cause them to start bombing their enemies with less precision and more wanton destruction, with the potential use of nukes even. Apart from the fact that this is hilarious and stupid just by going and looking at all the intact buildings in Gaza, Israel cannot go "all out" because they are in a way more precarious position than their enemies for one main reason: water. Israel utilizes desalination for over 85% of its freshwater needs, and the vast majority of this water is processed in 5 (yes just 5) desalination plants along the Mediterranean. This is the entire reason Israel/US haven't attacked Iran's power plants and bridges despite saying they wish to and could do so, all Iran or any of its proxies with guided missiles have to do is launch a couple dozen at each desal plant like they have at Haifa's refinery and it effectively turns Israel into an anarchic wasteland.

Even in the off chance Iran suddenly collapses in the coming months, Israel has already designated its new enemies in Turkey and Pakistan (alongside heightened tensions with Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Egypt). In fact, they are already trying to cultivate ties with other countries to counteract this percieved threat via their so-called hexagon alliance primarily composed of India, Greece, and the UAE while also potentially including Ethiopia and Morocco. In fact, proxy wars between these two groups are already unfolding in the civil wars and border disputes of Libya, Syria, Sudan, Cyprus, Somalia, and Yemen. Unfortunately however, it's not a very good strategy because most of the countries in this potential alliance are either weak (UAE and Ethiopia) historically very noncommital when it comes to international disputes (India) or are primarily composed of people who hate Israel (Greece and Morocco). So this leaves Israel alone to deal with a whole new set of insurgencies in Syria on the off chance they somehow manage to get Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon to all capitulate in the near future. There will simply be no way for Israel to constantly be at war without an endless supply of IDF conscripts and American weapons, both of which are windows rapidly closing.

All in all what do I think this means? Well as Israeli society gets more and more right wing and more and more extreme, they'll get increasingly desperate and continue to solidify their pariah status in the eyes of the world. They'll officially annex the West Bank like they've been saying they will, they'll continue expanding their "security zones" in Lebanon and Syria, and they'll start sabre rattling at every country in the region. Eventually though, international pressure will mount, sanctions will crush, and most likely a one democratic state type agreement will be reached where Palestinians are allowed to vote since the area would already be defacto a 1SS, just with apartheid in the West Bank and Gaza. Ideally they'd also voluntarily decomission their nukes like South Africa did, but that's far from a given.
