Britain or Spain. The people that have lived on the islands for generations wish to remain a British overseas territory.

Britain claimed them 4 decades before the Argentine state existed.
There was never a permanent indigenous population.
Argentines complaining about "colonizers" is hilarious.

If Argentinians weren't such remorseless faggots the UK probably would have sold it to then or at least handed over administration if the Falklands years ago.

Once it became clear that the Antarctic wasn't going to be opened up for mining etc, the Falklands became meaningless beyond pride to the UK.

>Argentinia should give back Tierra del Fuego to the Selk'nam people, if any if them still exist after Argentina's genocidal actions in the early 20th century.

the people with the right amount of guns and manpower owns those islands, anon. And quite frankly, given how pozzed the brits have become in recent years, Argentina's claim is a lot more credible in the current political climate.

The people on the island are British and want to remain British. There is no reason for anyone else to own the islands.

It is part of the hypothetical case of decolonizing and deanglicize the islands.

The British claim to sovereignty dates from 1690, when Captain John Strong made the first recorded landing on the islands.

Argentina claim has always been shaky and boils down to: "Spain once owned it -> we became Spain's successor -> therefore we own it."

The Falklands were disputed between Britain and Spain throughout the 1700s, with neither side accepting the other's claim.

1. Spain left in 1811.
2. Argentina became independent from Spain in 1816 and claimed the islands as Spain's successor in 1820.
3. Britain returned in 1833, expelled Argentina, and has governed ever since.

Argentina's claim has always been weak because it inherited Spain's side of an argument Britain had never accepted — not clear ownership.
>>
>>539095255
You are probably right but Argentina has no real claim and would be colonising the islands themselves to capture them, the inhabitants have been there almost as long as Argentina has existed
>>
I can understand hating the british, but there's a veritable religion over this mess that I cant get behind.

An invasion navy can be built in a year. A nation's demographics are irreversible at a certain point and I really doubt Ahmed and sukdeep would be raring to go defend the union jack were a fight to happen again. Besides the British navy today is in a rough state.
>>539095554

1000x more important than the stupid islands is the fishing rights and exclusive economic zone around them. That includes any oil and gas discoveries in the ocean.
Should some previously uninhabited islands claimed by a country thousands of miles away have the same 300 mile EEC as a country's mainland?
There COULD be billions of dollars worth of oil and gas in that under explored zone. Should a country thousands of miles away get the rights to that compared to a country's mainland?
>>
>>539096625

>>539096587
I mean it's literally in their doorstep. If a few NGOs can afford to transport hundreds of thousands of black gorilla niggers through the Mediterranean every year I don't see how an entire country couldn't assemble an invasion force in one or two.
>>
>>539096810
>transport hundreds of thousands of black gorilla niggers
This may shock you, but the requirements for a fleet that can take on the Royal Navy in the open ocean, even in the current sad state of the Royal Navy, is a lot more technically demanding than just providing a ferry across the mediterranean. You're comparing building a skyscraper to putting up a tent.
>I don't see how
Yes, that's obvious and that's what I find annoying. Too many people have opinions on things they don't know about.
>>
>>539096891
Even as shit as the Royal Navy is right now.
We're still like the 4th or 5th most powerful Navy somehow.
Counties just don't build ships anymore so there's a massive power gap between everyone and the US and China.
Then there's another band of Euro countries and Japan.
Then disarmed and landlocked nations like Argentina.
>>
>>539094440

>>
>>539093494
I do. Everyone else fuuck off my islands.
>>
>>539093739
Interesting fact America did indeed hold the islands for a limited time in the 1800’s when unsactioned Argentine squatters seized a few American whaling vessels, USS Lexington went down there dismantled their base and booted them out
>>
>>539097271
Normally you would be right, but at this point Indonesia has about twice as many modern ships as the UK does. I know it's hard to believe but that's where we're at.
>>
>>539097445
Well, we're both still ahead of Russia given most of their fleet are now submarines.
>>
>>539096891
They don't really need to either to be honest. Naval war has changed as the Taliban and Iran have shown and any navy that has to go fight on someone's else's coastline today is a sitting duck for missiles and drones and fighting an uphill battle.
>>
>>539097478
Russia is... Russia. I'm sure you know the story already but it's such a fucking good one so here it is.
>>
>>539097593
This is also why an invasion of the Falklands isn't going to happen. There's an existing UK military base on there already. An invasion attempt with a completely outdated military would be a bloodbath.

They can't just swim there. They need actual modern military hardware as well. And given how loudly they've been whining about the Falklands, nobody's going to want to sell it to them because they won't want to be dragged into the inevitable political shitshow.
