In 2012 I bought a house in a gated community. It's nice, but nothing crazy. HOA was moderately priced at 800/yr, and we had access to gym, trails, dock, pool, tennis courts, driving range, and for a small additional cost, pretty nice golf course. I got it for 212k. Since then I've replaced HVAC, put in new windows, reworked 1 bath, and replaced all flooring with hardwood/tile. All in all I have probably 50k put into it. It's currently "worth" 812k.That's the problem with housing. My current house should be a nice starter home for a senpai if I were to ever sell. 4br 2bath, affordable hoa, and updated stuff. But it's not. If young working class couples can't afford to own a home, literally nothing else matters. And handouts, one time tax cuts, or other bandaids won't fix it. This is my housing gripe, even tho I'm on the winning end of it (so long as I sell right before bubble bursts).
