The power of propaganda is incredible. You can force the populace into believing anything if you just repeat it ad nauseum; like the idea that this is a good painting. Whoever has power decides the truth.

Former leftist here. I will let you in on a secret. They know they are putting you on, when they say it. The objective is to say they think its a great piece of art, in order to convince YOU to go along with what they have said. It is a con game. They know it. Their goal, is to sway you.
And they think that what they do, is noble. They believe that the ends DO justify the means. Tgey want you and everyone to just go along with what they say. They wish to lead you along. Because they believe that what they do is best for you, and everyone else, in the end. No matter how nasty and dehumanizing the path is, to reach the endpoint.
>>
>>540973371
And Schönberg was a master Romantic composer. Doesn't make his atonal music anything other than the unimaginative trash that it is. To make art for the sake of "experimentation" or "progress" is bankrupt.

I think the right book always end up in your hands for sake of destiny. By example, if you read Toilers of the sea will notice that a man can do imaginable things to satisfy it's loneliness but then he might realize that he wasn't alone after spending real time alone unlike the count of monte cristo who had a perfect life ahead of him but was ripped cause men were jealous and greedy and he was a naive boy.

Do you think people tries to warn you about things you shouldn't do before hand and can only count on your good judgement? Resident Evil by example is trying to tell us that playing with immortality might be a bad idea.

No he wasn't. He was never technically remarkable. Certainly by no means a "master". People care about the story more than the works themselves. Impressionism as a style is just the visual representation of decadence and the loss of standards, a trend which has crept up on us since the industrial revolution.

It's weird that OP picked a tortured suicidal artist who was completely unknown and unsung to try and prove whatever point he was trying to make.

At least pick someone who actually was a nepo baby propped up by the system or something. Van Gogh was the definition of a true artist, whether one likes his work or not.

>>540974682
No. Art is dead because there are no more rigorous courses and the skills were lost from people not passing them down. The skills are lost and the art shows it. Not because our definition of what is art has changed. We accept what is put forth as new art based on what artists can produce. Its a shame that they aren't as skilled in many areas as they used to be. Contemporary art has many forms and not just painting.

We don't teach people the same skills because we elevate bad art. It flows from the top. Or maybe they feed on each other, like an ouroboros. Either way, the proliferation of bad art has a negative effect. You can't push atonal music and expect people to like classical music. So people stop caring, and the art form dies.

It starts with people like Van Gogh. A culture that has reached an artistic peak, and is subsequently searching for new horizons. But the only way to go is down. Modern art forms have their merits, but ultimately fall short of the art of the past. I think we need to accept that. It's just the reality of living in a civilization in decline.

Not really, in my experience. It just delivers something that seems nice on the surface, but doesn't have much thought put into it when you examine closer. And I think that's the problem I have with AI art. A lack of attention to detail, a lack of caring. I think that "soul" is a core part of what makes art great, but it needs to be anchored in something. There's a balance to be sought in art.

Digital art is probably dead.
People forget what it feels like to see, hold, or own a really good 1 of 1 physical painting. Everything we consume is through a screen. Its fast and easy, flat. Digital can still be good but ai is closing in. A skillful painting, that is a real physical thing, actually has presence in a room, not all of them of course, but a good painting has presence, digital screens can never replace that

I think you're judging art too rigidly. Of course we have gotten worse painters since Goya, but Christian Rex Van Minnen does new things with textures on classical styles that are interesting. True and normie-pilled. The realization few people make is that what convinces most people of something is not proof or logical deduction. It's somebody in authority telling them so, or it's a convenient belief for their life, or it's emotion. Analysis and reasoning is secondary to these methods of convincing, this is why science has such a problem with bias.

In terms of 'art' it's a business like any other, and marketing is part of the business. Pic related, a diamond encrusted skull by Damien Hirst. When it went up for auction at the start of his career it sold for a massive sum to an anonymous buyer and was headline news in all news media. One week later a sole reporter followed up to try and uncover who the buyer was, only to find out that the sale had not actually proceeded despite the auction. In other words it was all a marketing stunt. You can convince the normies that something has 20x it's value just because it has a brand name on it, many such cases. Children, women and niggers are most susceptible to such tricks.

>I really do think oil on canvas looks like shit babies would draw
are you retarded? There basically is no upper limit to how realistic you can draw with oil. Almost as soon as it was invented masters instantly recognized its superiority to tempera paints. The reason modernists like Van Gogh, Dali and Picasso got famous was because the realism angle was basically obsolete because of photography. If you just wanted to document a scene or take a portait, you'd just take a picture. The thing left for painters were exploring the areas that photographers couldn't.

No. I like pizza but I don't ascribe it the value of steak. If you show most people a Caravaggio and a Van Gogh, I think most people would prefer the Caravaggio and be willing to pay more for it. It's not that Van Gogh is worthless, the value of his work is simply exaggerated for the art business purposes. There are only so many Caravaggio's in existence, and decades or centuries go by before one comes on the market. The art business need something to sell, so they create a market for lesser art.

thats because the electric version sucks ass. it wasnt until he did it acoustic that the soul of the music finally awakened.

van gogh is good in the context of artistic progression. everything was fucking boring ass literal versions of a farm or a lake at the time. its kind of the way the mona lise is considered so good. its not. its just revolutionary for its time. walk through the leuvre, and all you see are really fucking shitty 2D renditions of people that quite literally look like something your 12 yr old kid could paint. then you see her and wow, she is 3D. thats pretty much the only thing special about the picture, her "alluring smile" is just overhyped frosting on the cake that leaves the rest of the museum wing in dust. but these days? its nothing special at all.

context actually matters. kind of like how the beatles revolutionized music, even though the vast majority of their early stuff is absolute tinny garbage.
