For more than two years, a few thousand wretched and hungry Palestinians, penned up in a ghetto, separated from the rest of the population by an eight foot electric fence, fought the mighty Israeli Army. The Jews were able to win only after putting the torch to the ghetto and destroying most of its buildings. More than a thousand Jewish soldiers lost their lives in that first civilian, open, armed uprising against jewry in the modern world.
