On 9/11, a man who was above the impact zone on the North Tower climbed out a window, positioned himself between the vertical columns on the outside of the building, and successfully started climbing down. He managed to climb about 45 meters down the side of the building until he was tragically dislodged and fell by the shock wave and debris when the South Tower collapsed. RIP king, he went out like a true warrior.

Tragically, he was only one column over from an open window. Had he been climbing down the space to the right, he could have entered the window which would have led him to a functioning stairwell.

It was technically one floor below the impact zone (93-99), but everyone on 92 died because all the escape routes were blocked by the damage to the building. Another possibility is he was on a lower floor and panicked thinking he had to try to climb out of the building to escape, not realize the stairwells remained passable. That seems less likely, though.
