That Learjet was flying low enough that a Mach Tuck would almost certainly be unrecoverable, even if she reacted immediately.2) The wings iced over and the plane began pitching down/rolling, which she had no way to stop because the control surfaces were also iced over. This would be even worse if only one wing was iced because any attempt to use the stick to regain control of the plane would only worsen the loss of control due to the imbalanced force being applied by the un-iced wing.In all likelihood it was a combination of both of those things - the plane began rolling and nosing down due to ice when she was already flying at the maximum safe speed. That caused her to enter a Mach Tuck, which made the problem unrecoverable (assuming it was recoverable to begin with, which at 8,700 feet it probably wasn't).
