You'd be shocked that you can be in the middle of war and daily life still feels mostly normal and mundane. Living through historical times doesn't feel as intense as all the movies and vidja made you believe it would. You'll still have to go to work, still pay your taxes, still tend to your daily chores. There's no escaping that unless you personally get hit by a grenade. Which is a rather small chance.
