Translation of the HIMAWARI interview from the most recent pamphlet:>-You balance both pro wrestling and theater, HIMAWARI, but how did you first get into theater?>HIMAWARI: I went to an elementary school that took things like school plays and music festivals seriously. Every year we would all go watch a Shiki Theatre Company production, and then we would perform that play for our school play — it was an annual tradition. That’s where I discovered how fun the stage could be.>What kind of play was it?>HIMAWARI: It was a play called Elcos’ Prayer, which takes place at a school. I really liked the role of Daniela, a mean female teacher in the story. I auditioned for the role in class, got the part, and actually performed it in our school play — and it scared the younger kids so much that some of them cried. That reaction was so much fun for me that I thought, Maybe this is what I want to do! That was the very first spark.>-And then you joined the drama club?>HIMAWARI: I went to a high school that had a theater department. We had classes in dance and vocal music, and there were regular performances held at the school, so I was able to learn at a pretty professional level. I even entered a musical theater program in college, so altogether I spent seven years living that kind of life.>-What happened after you graduated from college?>HIMAWARI: I joined a theater troupe that was just being launched. But unfortunately, my graduation year coincided with the COVID pandemic. Our graduation ceremony was canceled, and I couldn’t even leave the house.>-And I guess you couldn’t do stage plays at that point either.>HIMAWARI: Not at all. The very first production I was supposed to be in got canceled because of COVID, and I had no choice but to work part-time jobs. It was pretty rough. In the end, the theater company itself shut down because of COVID.>-This might be a bit out of order, but when did you first encounter pro wrestling?
>>18824179>HIMAWARI: It was right around that same time. The theater company folded, stage productions kept getting canceled, and I was feeling really down. That’s when my mom said, “Why don’t we go watch some pro wrestling together to cheer you up?”>-So your mom is a pro wrestling fan?>HIMAWARI: My mom and my younger brother are into pro wrestling. At the time, they were like, “We’ve been curious about this promotion called DDT. But it’s a bit nerve-wracking to check out a new promotion alone, so why don’t we all go together?”>-How was it?>HIMAWARI: My reaction was, “Pro wrestling is this fun!?” It was at Shinjuku FACE, during that period when they were spacing out the seats and you weren’t allowed to cheer out loud. But even so, for the first time in a while, I was able to laugh from the bottom of my heart. I thought, “What is this space? It’s too wonderful!” Theater and pro wrestling are the same in the sense that you’re performing in front of an audience, right? In that moment I realized, “There’s a space where you can express yourself like this — where you can show your way of life!” That was the very first time I became interested in pro wrestling.>-Did you go from “Pro wrestling is fun!” to “I want to try it!” right away?>HIMAWARI: I happened to meet someone who told me about a stage production where they perform plays inside a wrestling ring and even use wrestling moves — I thought, “What? That sounds amazing!” That was Actwres girl’Z. But at the end of the day, Actwres girl'Z are actresses, not pro wrestlers. I wanted to be a pro wrestler. If I was going to go through something so tough, I wanted to be able to proudly call myself a pro wrestler and step into the sacred ring. That’s why I joined Tokyo Joshi Pro and asked to start as a trainee.>-Your debut match was against Yuki Aino on January 4, 2023. You showed incredible composure for a debut match — even the commentary team was surprised.
>>18824191>HIMAWARI: I’ve gotten into the habit of not showing my nerves on my face. Whether I’m standing in front of an audience as the pro wrestler HIMAWARI or as my real self, Himawari Sato, I always act in a way that matches the “HIMAWARI-like character” people expect. Being cheerful and full of energy is the image people have of me, so I’m not very good at expressing sadness or pain.>-Isn’t it hard to keep that up all the time?>HIMAWARI: The truth is, I was bullied pretty badly in junior high. People often say they can’t imagine that because of how I am now, but back then I wasn’t living as the “HIMAWARI” you see today. When I got to high school, one of the core teachings there was, “Say yes with a smile.” Even when you get criticized, you say, “Thank you very much.” That might have been when the personality of today’s HIMAWARI was created. For me, it was easier to accept things with a smile than to cry when I was being scolded.>-Not knowing any of that, I just thought, “She’s so talented,” or “Her character is so well established.”>HIMAWARI: But if what people see is a cheerful HIMAWARI who can have a positive effect on everyone, then that’s actually what I’m aiming for. My desire to “be someone who gives people energy” is so strong that I end up feeling like, “I can’t show anyone the negative parts of me.”>Is there a feeling you can only get inside the pro wrestling ring?>HIMAWARI: I think pro wrestling is the one place where I can take emotions I normally keep hidden — frustration, pain — and turn them into fuel. In May, I challenged Suzume for the International Princess Championship, and that match completely changed my mindset. Rather than just feeling frustrated about losing, I was actually able to enjoy the match so much. Not in a “fun and silly” way — but in a way that left me feeling genuinely refreshed from the bottom of my heart.
Time to go back and watch DDT shows from that year and that venue and see if we can find her in the crowdAlso I'm surprised her family liked wrestling but had never seen DDT. And this means that she's only been a fan for a few years.
Why does she look 100x better w/o makeup than with it?
>>18824206>-You earned that title shot by winning the challenger tournament at Kanda Myojin Hall, which included not just your fellow Class of ’23 but also the new Class of ’24.>HIMAWARI: There were times when I felt like I was kind of half-baked compared to my peers, who all had something solid to bring to the table, or when I felt like I’d hit a wall in my own growth. But that day, everyone worked so hard that I was able to advance — it was thanks to all of them that I got that shot. Going into that singles match with Suzume, I carried everyone’s feelings with me, and Suzume faced me head-on. For the first time, I felt like I could believe in myself a little more — like I needed to believe in the version of HIMAWARI that the fans believe in.>-So that tournament and the match with Suzume were really important for you.>HIMAWARI: Definitely. Without that experience, I don’t think I would’ve realized that it’s okay for HIMAWARI to give her all in the way she loves most.>-And now, what direction do you feel motivated to pursue?>HIMAWARI: Up until now, people often asked me, “Are you more of a power type or a comedy wrestler?” But now I feel like it’s okay to work hard in either direction. I think however HIMAWARI grows from here, that growth itself can create the ups and downs — the story arcs — of my life. I’m excited for the fans to be able to watch that happen.
How the FUCK did we let this yen factory slip out of are grasp?

I wonder if Maki is fucked up somehow and needed some time off, hence why she's not hitting the ground running on her freelance run.

>Hey everyone, how are you doing?>Thanks so much to everyone who joined my stream!>I’m not sure when the next one will be, but I’ll do it again whenever I feel like it lol>I had a pretty active day—started off with junk food in the morning (which gave me a stomachache), went to a friend’s live show, and then did some wrestling training. Now my whole body is sore.>I also came up with a new costume design and sent it to the maker. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!>How was your weekend?
