there's a video, and I've seen a webm from it here on /pw/ once, of the kick from an angle kind of behind Goldberg, a bit to his left. The kick seems to go to the cheek, not so devastating whatsoever, while regardless Bret blocks the kick with his hand.
Look at it in slowmo here (blocking with left hand shown a second after or so in that slowmo speed), Bret has been lying since then like the schizo he is, now fully drown in sunken cost fallacy:

Goldberg was supposed to grab Bret Hart's foot/leg to stop him from essentially powerbombing himself on the back of his head. But there are a lot of clips of Bret Hart doing this move on people that don't grab his foot so it's up in the air whether or not he informed Goldberg on this. Bret Hart is not one to take accountability for his actions.

He sells it immediately and continues to after that. Mark had to get his shit in even though the move makes no sense to do in a match in kayfabe.
