It wasn't perfect but it was better than the competition. The G1 had some really good matches but the result was terrible, and absolutely NOT what New Japan needs right now. The Carnival was lackluster, Royal Road was worse but at least it had a satisfying end.

SUWAMA grabs Takayama belly-to-belly and Takayama counters with a stiff headbutt that instantly busts him open. Takayama follows up with multiple kicks and punches and a suplex while he bleeds dramatically.

This match is hiding maybe the nastiest brainbuster bump in 90s AJPW, and Misawa's sell definitely adds to that. This looks a lot more like that one neck compression clip than the usual AJPW death sells and it's SCARY.
The biggest benefit of these lower res recordings is that it's way easier to fit in context for spots like these.

The score for this match would read a draw, but the match itself is anything but. Kawada completely dogwalks Misawa from the first two minutes when he lands that backdrop driver, and essentially the only offense Misawa lands is what keeps Kawada from getting the pin in the final minutes.
