>irreversibly destroy professional wrestling by popularizing overly choreographed flippy sequences
>>
>>
>>18934393
ONE OF THE GUYS
>>
>>18934393
The young cucks and Kenny Omega wished they looked as smooth as this
>>
>>18934393
There was nothing wrong with this. Unathletic, skinny-fat midgets trying to do it at half the speed and none of the impact killed wrestling.
>>
>>18934393
>duck under the leapfrog
>turn around
>stand there waiting instead of following Jerry to the ropes and smashing him in the head with an elbow
pathetic
>>
>>18934419
why did bill alfonso not simply hit jerry lynn with a shoot whistle until he quit?
>>
Flips are based and universally over and always pop the crowd, and I'm tired of pretending that hating them is legitimate or somehow more authentic. Such a really midwit contrarian opinion adopted by people so they seem like they have a clue when they really don't.
>>
as bad as this is I don't see anybody no selling piledrivers so it's not all bad
>>
>>18934444
wasted quads on a figrider
>>
even though you are probably right this still feels much smoother and more weighty than the crap we're getting today.
>>
>>18934444
checked
flips are based but the constant no selling and focus on spots with no psychology are gay
>>
>>18934444
Flips are fine.

Flippyshit, however, refers to a non-stop barrage of flips with such frequency that the match becomes nothing but spots.

People love blaming indie shit no one watched for ruining wrestling. Here’s what really happened:
>wwe kills the territories greatly reducing the amount of wrestlers who can actually work full time, which is needed to develop as a performer
>wwe is waits until the late 90s to start a developmental system
>through mismanagement and incompetence wwf ruins their developmental system and opens the unproven PC which is more of an expensive pr stunt than an actual training center
>for decades wrestlers outside of the wwe system are lucky to wrestle once a month because it’s so hard to find consistent work, in a big part because the industry leader, WWF, is really bad and runs off potential fans every year

Look at how jacked rvd is here too
now compare that to hgh guy osmegma or skinnyfat assplay
not even the same league, shit its not even the same sport
>>18934677
that fisherman suplex into a crossbody off the ropes popped the hell out of me
now THIS is workrate
>>
Meltzer used to complain when things looked overly choreographed.
>>
>>18934627
This makes a lot of sense
>>
The way Jerry Lynn ran the ropes always annoyed me. He also had the worst ring attire.
>>
>>18934588
explain how a flippyshit match is any worse a match than WWE's restholds + melodrama slopfets

>>18934669
>even does the superhero pose at the end
>>
>>18934701
I didn't say flippyshit was any worse than WWE slop, did I? I try not to compare smelly turds to each other because to me, it's all just shit.

correct
>>

So the only two kinds of wrestling in the entire world, in wrestling history, are WWE slop and flippyshit?

Anon, are you fucking retarded or what?
For me, it's Japs giving each other shoot brain damage and old school Memphis/territory shit.

They work like twice a month and get paid regardless of performance. Tony saw all these promos where they talk about loving performing for the fans. And just assumed he’d get just as much hard work and dedication once they became near millionaires over night.

>>
>>18934771
People think they hate it. They just hate the lack psychology and emotional engagement that is often absent from it when performed poorly. It’s the difference between a dragon gate six man and a dragon gate mainevent. The difference between Davey Richards and KENTA. The difference between the bucks and the Hardys.

I’m fine with spottests. I think they can have their place on a card. Especially an action focused promotion. But the spots just look so much worse than they did 20 years ago.

>>
Of the many idiotic fan views I've seen as someone who started watching again last year after dropping out around 07-8ish, the absolute dumbest by far is how many retards act like modern day wrestlers are great athletes who totally blow away old school wrestlers.
Modern day shitters are 5'7 twinks who do some crossfit and can't even perform half the moves they try. Matches are *spot, spot, lay on the ground for 30 seconds and then repeat* because guys have no endurance or cardio and do those spots in slow motion to begin with. Watch any 90s or early 2000's match, its constant action and then you get a 1-2 minute rest hold and then 10 more minutes of constant action because 80% of the roster were actual athletes who got into wrestling after washing out of football or being an amateur wrestler.
The literal worst thing about modern wrestling is the actual wrestling now. The storylines usually make way more sense, and theres way less absurdity in the presentation, but it all falls apart when anyone gets in the ring and does choreographed ballet routines instead of knocking the shit out of each other.
>>
>>18935338
Dynamite Kid was a roided up psycho. No modern wrestler would survive him. He fucked up Mick Foleys jaw with a clothesline.
>>
It's crazy how much better things look when you >SLOW IT DOWN
>>
>>18935402
There was a time in wrestling when you could be 5'9 and just do roids made you an unstopable juggernaut
>>
>>18935383
> spot, spot, lay on the ground for 30 seconds and then repeat
I knew smark wrestling had passed me by when the first ricochet vs Osprey match got a ton of praise and when I watched it they just took turns running off the ropes so the other one could catch them with a move and get a two count over and over again.
I’m not saying this to be mean or condescending but if anyone reading this really likes AEW, unironically and not just because you want someone to make WWE look bad. But watch 2003-2008 ring of honor. Watch 2005 CZW. Watch 08-2020 Chikara. Watch dragon gate from its founding to 2009. Watch that 25 best NOAH matches list. I think you will really enjoy these, they’re all action focused and objectively have less botches and better setups for spots than you get in AEW.
>>
>>18935500
*08-2010 chikara

Not to mention he had that Japanese strong style. I guess you call it that. Those dudes would shoot try to kill each other in the 80's.

>>18935513
Strong Style is a marketing term Inoki came up with where he basically claimed the way new Japan guys wrestle is a legit martial arts and it’s the best way to fight. Ultimately it means as much as sports entertainment, where the boogie man and Chris Benoit were both sports entertainers. Guys working a proto shoot style in the 70s and 80s are strong style and so are all the juniors like Liger who wears a silly bodysuit and do shit off the top rope.
Dynamite just knew he was half the height of everyone and if he was going to look good he’d just have to be a complete bully in and out of the ring.
>>
yeah lynn and rvd only did this spot like once a year
not every single match on every single card every single week
massive difference
>>
>>18934393
>>18935303
The difference between these is night and day and if you prefer the latter you just don't get it pal

There was a wrestling boom and people regularly ordered PPVs. If there wasn’t a significant amount of people ordering ECW ppvs they would have been replaced with pornography or more replays of the matrix.
You started watching wrestling in 2015. You don’t know how normal it was to watch wrestling back then, even a fringe promotion like ECW was more well known than AEW.
>>
>>18934393
make sure to include the WCW cruiserweights, in particular the luchadores. Think of them every time you see a shitty very choreogrpahed looking counter/reverse/counter/reverse sequence that ends with a standoff and the wrestlers staring at each other like fags.
