All of my favorite promotions either ran at a loss or were money laundering for the yakuza. It would have been nice for all my favorite indies to be profitable. But ultimately I would rather have a CZW that weird and violent than a CZW that cuts corners to break even. Everyone hated Cornette’s ROH and it was the only time it was profitable. And even at the time I was the only person to realize all the complaints were about budgeting and not really the booking.All that said, you can’t claim AEW is telling great stories and having great matches when the ratings have dropped by 2/3rds. Clearly they had a million fans at one point, and now they have about 300k. So 700k fans are not happy with the product.
