How does /pw/ feel about kayfabes demise? Wrestlers don’t even pretend it’s real anymore, it’s over. Is that a good thing, bad thing, neutral thing? What do you think? Btw Picrel obviously isn’t the first transgression on kayfabe, lol just the most recent. This is not a hit thread on Chelsea. She’s great. But yeah it’s like no one gives a fuck about kayfabe anymore.

>With kayfabe's demise, so goes pro wrestling.
Taking away one of its pillars, it'll collapse eventually. Expect even more theatre kids. I love you
>>
i couldn't care less, kayfabe was an archaic concept used to swindle people out of money. the modern wrestling landscape especially wwe is far more of a tv show than a sideshow act so it doesn't really make sense to retain kayfabe outside of the show. HOWEVER worked shoots are fucking gay
>>
Kayfabe has been dead for 40 years
>>
>>19081336
No, it died with Undertaker. He was the last guy to protect it.
>>
>>19081314
Bitch is retarded and never a wrestling fan. Her own husband shits on her for not knowing anything about the history of the industry she’s in.
>>
>>19081330
We have failed college athletes and theater kids, but very rarely do we get kids who just love wrestling. J’von Evans is one of the only ones
>>
Imagine Kurt Angle saying “OMG THE CONVERSATION I HAD WITH VINCE ABOUT HOW SHAWN AND I ARE GONNA DO THE FINISH LMAO CANT WAIT TO TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT IT!!” Wrestling is fucking dead lmao
>>

kurt angle has a podcast where he does exactly this

I saw that clip of Darby attacking Mox at Comic Con and like one or two seats away is Swerve and I think OC was there too. In kayfabe they're all against Mox and the Death Riders but how am I supposed to take lil nigga seriously here?

He literally was the only guy still living the gimmick. Yeah he gave up after everyone else did, but ye was the last soldier continuing the tradition.

Pro-wrestling is a masturbatory business.

With guys like Haitch in charge, does she even beed to respect the business

to be fair he's retired talking about matches that happened 20 years ago, its another thing to do it with matches as they happen.

True. Thats a good point
>>
>>19081314
Exposing the business implies that there's still people that think wrestling is shoot real. Those people don't exist anymore

Things aren't different you're just deliberately choosing to ruin your own enjoyment of wrestling by looking at fucking Twitter
>>
>>19084576
>If a handful of /pw/ anons ignore social media, the gradual decline of kayfabe at large will cease
Not crazy, but confused
>>
>>19084613
I don't look at Chelsea Green's twitter, but I am looking at OP's post about it and I agree with him that she's doing something blameworthy. Her tweet shows 100k+ views at the point the image was captured. Advising a few individuals to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it isn't happening isn't gonna reverse the general decline.
>>
>>19081333
Kayfabe plays an essential role in this peculiar form of entertainment. Most adults who followed pro wrestling back in the territory days understood that they weren't watching a legitimate sport, and most kids who followed it had a better experience because they bought into the illusion that it was real. There's value in keeping up these appearances. If Chelsea Green wants to do a shoot interview or be featured on 'Unreal,' she can go ahead and do that. But she is taking something away from the experience of a lot of fans when she goes on social media under the same name she uses when she's on the show and makes posts like this. She's doing her job poorly and she's too dense to realize it.
>>
>>19081314
Kayfabe is more alive than ever, you're just being worked in new and exciting ways and don't realise.
>>
>>19084655
You saw a Twitter screenshot and chose to look at it, it's not "burying your head in the sand" to not look at completely banal bullshit you don't like. It's like being some newsletter subscriber in the 90s crying about wrestlers gossiping to Meltzer because they're "exposing the business."
>>
>>19085106
>It's not "burying your head in the sand" to not look at completely banal bullshit you don't like.

It is burying your head in the sand to personally ignore a general tendency that is playing out in public. If you can't understand this point, then okay my fellow /pw/ anon.

The business is changing for the worse. Chelsea Green's tweet is one mild symptom of the malignant disease that is gonna put it under -- and my death metaphor here is in reference to the "mainstream" cultural status that Vince managed to elevate the industry into. A personal choice to refrain from looking at tweets like this on twitter or on /pw/ isn't going to have any affect on the decline of the industry from mainstream status. In her own small way, Green is helping diminish the general fan experience of the WWE in a way that will lead many to lose all interest in pro wrestling down the line.
>>
>>19084945
Okay Hunter. Thanks.
>>
>>19081314
It's a good thing. Kayfabe is the #1 thing that keeps normies from accepting wrestling. "You know it's fake, right" That's the refrain you hear from every normie who doesn't even understand what wrestling is. Their impression is that they're trying to trick you into thinking it's real, and wrestling is for kids and retarded people. They don't realize it's a form of fictional storytelling, and that's what people like about it.
>>
>>19085361
>The business is changing for the worse
that happened over 30yrs ago. when there became only one entry way for faces/heels to go to the ring old school pro-wrestling died. the prevalence of cameras and social media and women in wrestling today make kayfabe impossible
>>
>>19086620
It was an inevitability
>>
>>19085106
>JUST DONT VIEW ANY WEBSITE JUST IN CASE THERE IS SOMEONE BREAKING KAYABE BRO!!!!!!!!
or these faggots could make personal accounts like every other actor
>>
>>19087156
but the women are the worst though. they constantly post pics of face/heels together smiling and hanging out
>>
>>19086620
>That happened over 30yrs ago

I know where you're coming from, and there is a case to be made there but I disagree. Social conditions certainly changed in a way that made the traditional practices of maintaining kayfabe impossible, but Vince saw to it that the wrestling business adapted to these changes and this led to greatest height of wrestling's popularity.

This can be a difficult subject to discuss given the nature of the topic. The term "kayfabe" began as a nonsensical code word invented by carnies to signal to their performers that fans/marks were around and so everyone needed to stay in character for the sake of the illusion. I understand that the days of separate locker rooms for heels and faces are long gone, and yet I can cite more examples than 4chan's character limit will allow of performers openly refusing to preserve some semblance of kayfabe before being surprised to find that fans have lost interest and aren't watching. Dirt sheets, shoot interviews, and shows like 'Unreal' are forms of entertainment that take interested fans "behind the curtain," and the relevance of each relies upon the health of the industry that plays out on the other side of that curtain. Performers ought not get too careless and go overboard in speaking about what they do as though it were make-believe. The millions of fans who willfully suspend their disbelief as they watch the shows shouldn't have performers like Chelsea Green talking down to them for doing just that.

>>
Dom "king of kayfabe" mysterio is the only one who's protecting kayfabe
Maybe Asuka too
>>
>>19088814
Asuka gets it. She puts in a lot of effort on her YouTube page.

I could easily see him freaking out if you broke it as a lesser talent

Ironically the land of Japan where you all scream SMARK keeps it going, the West and specifically WWE are where everyone is doing shoot interviews every other week. Triple H is awful for it too.
