>Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling: HIMAWARI's "Hair" and Shino Suzuki's "Voice" – The Unique Path of Pro Wrestling They Carve Outhttps://proresu-today.com/archives/282200/>**Carrying the Future of Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling: The 2023 Debut Tag Team of HIMAWARI and Shino Suzuki** >The synchronized tag team of HIMAWARI and Shino Suzuki, who debuted in March 2023, are set to carry the future of Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling. On November 9 at Korakuen Hall, the two will challenge for the Princess Tag Team Championship—a major goal. The source of their strength lies in their completely different yet intensely powerful individualities. In this **[Latter Part]**, we dive deep into the core of their personalities.>HIMAWARI, known as the “Sun,” is both a pro wrestler and a stage actress. Her rich expressiveness—often described as having a “noisy face”—was honed on stage. And her trademark super-long hair. From the shocking confession that “I was bald when I was born” to her grand dream of “someday fighting in Mexico with my hair on the line,” that hair encapsulates her very life.>On the other hand, Shino Suzuki’s background is the unusual “former bus tour guide.” Her past aspiration to be an “idol inside the bus” has now evolved into her killer ring move, the “Tour Guide Move.” She also balances idol activities as a member of **Up Up Girls (Pro-Wrestling)**. While battling a packed schedule and her “Knee God” troubles, she candidly reveals the synergistic effect where the stamina gained from wrestling supports her live performances.>Two people with completely different weapons and dreams—what future do they envision in the same ring?
>>19220679>**—HIMAWARI, you’re active as both a pro wrestler and a stage actress. Are there any struggles in balancing these two forms of “expression”?** **HIMAWARI:** I’ve always loved standing in front of people and expressing something, so rather than struggles, the enjoyment is far greater. To me, stage acting and pro wrestling are very similar. >**—Similar?** **HIMAWARI:** Yes. Both have that live feeling. They’re about expressing raw emotions in front of the audience and moving their hearts—in that sense, they’re exactly the same. But there are differences too. On stage, you act out the life of a “character” written in the script, as someone separate from yourself. Pro wrestling, though, is the character “HIMAWARI,” but at its core, it’s about expressing the essence of “Sato Himawari”—my real self, my life—over a lifetime. >**—So you yourself become the content.** **HIMAWARI:** Exactly. On stage, there are lines and character settings, but in pro wrestling, if you’re empty inside, you can’t convey anything. You have to constantly grow yourself and fill up your inner self. That’s both the difficulty and the joy of pro wrestling. >**—Are there ways the two activities positively influence each other?** **HIMAWARI:** Absolutely, tons! People often say I have a “noisy face” (laughs). >**—“Noisy face” (laughs).** **HIMAWARI:** That’s probably because of my stage experience. On stage, you have to deliver your expressions to audience members far away, so naturally, your expressions become bigger. That habit carries over to wrestling, where I can show “pain,” “frustration,” or “fun” entirely through my face. Conversely, the improved athletic ability and body control from wrestling have made stage sword fights and action scenes much easier. I have a stage play with sword fighting in November and December, and learning how to swing a sword there dramatically increased the “attack power” of my hair in wrestling.
>>19220684>**—Wow! The power of your hair.** **HIMAWARI:** Seriously—the way you put power into your hips and legs when swinging a sword, and the trajectory—if you apply that to swinging your hair, the power is completely different. I thought, *this is an amazing synergy.* >**—Speaking of your super-long hair, which is part of your identity… is it true you’ve never cut it except the bangs since birth?** **HIMAWARI:** Yes (laughs). Except the bangs. >**—Maintenance must be incredibly tough. The amount of shampoo…** **HIMAWARI:** It’s insane. I go *pssh pssh pssh!*—probably three times what others use. Hair oil consumption is brutal too. Before I know it, “Wait, it’s already gone!?” So when fans give me nice conditioner or hair oil as gifts, I’m *so* happy (laughs). >**—(Laughs). We should ask the fans for that. In the ring, it’s both a weapon and a weakness since opponents grab it.** **HIMAWARI:** Exactly! It’s *way* too easy to grab. Everyone just grabs it right away. Figuring out how to prevent that is a challenge going forward. >**—Why did you end up growing it this long in the first place?** **HIMAWARI:** This is super embarrassing, but… apparently, I was *completely bald* when I was born. >**—Wait, really!?** **HIMAWARI:** Yes. Normally, babies have enough hair for a “fetal hair brush,” right? I didn’t even have that. My mom felt sorry for me and started growing it out—that’s how it began, apparently. >**—And you just never found the right time to cut it.** **HIMAWARI:** Exactly. “Until elementary school entrance,” “until graduation,” “until coming-of-age ceremony”—it kept getting postponed with every milestone (laughs). Even after starting acting, for traditional Japanese roles, they’d say, “You can use your real hair, so don’t cut it.” So now, it’s something I’ve walked through life with—I’ll keep it forever.
>>19220689>**—Do you ever crave a short cut?** **HIMAWARI:** Oh, *absolutely*! I’ve been saying “I want to cut it, I want to cut it” forever, dreaming of a forward-angled bob with the back shaved (laughs). >**—Any chance of putting that hair on the line in the ring someday?** **HIMAWARI:** Oh, I’d love that! Maybe at retirement or a major life turning point—I want to go to Mexico and do a “Máscara contra Cabellera”** (mask vs. hair loser-gets-shaved match) in its home country. >**—Not in Japan, but Mexico.** **HIMAWARI:** Yes. It’s my life itself. To put it on the line, fight in a foreign land, and maybe leave my hair there… that would be an amazing pro wrestling life.
>>19220691>**—Next, to Shino. Your previous job as a bus guide is quite an unusual background. How did that come about?** **Shino Suzuki:** Ever since I was little, I wanted to be an idol. But for various reasons, I couldn’t make it. I was wondering what to do when I remembered my mom had been a bus guide, so I went to tour a bus company. The person in charge told me, *“A bus guide can become the ‘idol inside the bus.’”* >**—That’s a killer line.** **Shino Suzuki:** Right? *“Idol!? I can become one here!?”* It hit me like a spark (laughs). The uniform was cute too, so that’s how I became a bus guide. >**—Did you actually become the “idol inside the bus”?** **Shino Suzuki:** Hmm… (wry smile). Before joining, I had that image, but in reality, it was way harder than that. *“Is this really what being an idol is like…?”* (laughs). >**—(Laughs). Yet that experience has now evolved into your one-of-a-kind “Tour Guide” move on the ring.** **Shino Suzuki:** Exactly! I even feel like *maybe I became a bus guide for this very future*. Attacking people with tour commentary feels *so* good (laughs). Those three hard years finally feel rewarded. >**—That tour guide bit is a huge hit with fans too.** **Shino Suzuki:** I’m so happy. Lately, opponents have caught on and stop me midway, but then the crowd goes *“Ehhh!”* and boos. *“We want to hear more!”* Right now I only guide to about two spots, so I want to take people to more places and ramp up the attack power. >**—You do local spots at regional shows too.** **Shino Suzuki:** Yes! Someday, if I can guide fans to famous local landmarks at regional events and help revitalize the area as a wrestler, that’d be the best.
>>19220693>**—And now, Shino, you’re balancing pro wrestling with idol activities as a member of Up Up Girls (Pro-Wrestling). How is it actually going?** **Shino Suzuki:** It’s insane. It’s tough (laughs). The schedule literally doubles. HIMAWARI and I keep saying to each other, *“This is crazy, this is crazy.”* But because I do both, fans get to see sides of me they wouldn’t see if I were just a wrestler. I’m grateful for that. Fans don’t separate “idol” and “wrestler” when cheering—they say things like *“I’m cheering for Shino Suzuki’s entire life.”* I might not have realized that without doing both. >**—Are there synergistic benefits between the two?** **Shino Suzuki:** My stamina has gone through the roof! Idol lives are *brutally* hard. At first, I’d lose my voice and collapse after just three songs in a row. But now, I can do eight songs straight, no problem. >**—Eight songs straight is incredible.** **Shino Suzuki:** And with proper knee lifts and landings (laughs). If I weren’t wrestling, I’d never have built this level of stamina. The synergy is real. >**—Any struggles with balancing both? Like taking a lariat and wrecking your throat?** **HIMAWARI:** Oh yeah. When I take a lariat, I’m like, *“Oh no, my voice is gone—throat’s in trouble”* (wry laugh). **Shino Suzuki:** I have *zero* athletic sense—my knees literally don’t bend. I’m a “Knee God” (*only moves with straight knees*). >**—“Knee God” (laughs).** **Shino Suzuki:** So when landing from dance jumps, the bounce of the ring versus a hard stage floor confuses my knees. Surprisingly, the close calls and near-accidents happen more during idol lives than in wrestling (laughs).
>>19220699>**—Thank you. Finally, please tell us your future goals and the kind of wrestlers you aim to become.****HIMAWARI:** My goal is to become a more worldwide wrestler. I’ve had opportunities to go overseas—to the U.S., China, and the U.K.—but I want to cross borders even more as a pro wrestler. Even without speaking the language, I believe there’s so much that can be conveyed through pro wrestling’s “body language.” And when I decide to retire, my dream is to have that hair-on-the-line match in Mexico.>**—How about you, Shino?****Shino Suzuki:** My immediate goal is to win this tag team belt. That’s all I can see right now. Also, since I have this unique background as a former bus guide, I’m thinking of new moves based on that. I want to find something that makes people say, *“That’s so Shino!”* I realized how important that is after wrestling overseas. And I missed this summer’s tournament, so I really want to enter the main draw next time and win it all.>**—Thank you. Finally, a message to the fans ahead of the November 9 Korakuen Hall show.****Shino Suzuki:** I’m beyond “doing my best”—I’m going all out, ready to risk my life for it. I might actually die (laughs). **—Don’t die! (laughs)** **Shino Suzuki:** (laughs) But seriously, that’s my resolve—I’m putting my life on the line to take those belts. I’d be thrilled if you came to see it!**HIMAWARI:** At Korakuen, the ones shining with the belts at the very end will be us, **Bumping gRitters**! So everyone, please cheer for us with all you’ve got!

I agree that Koda fumbled by not making her PoP champ back in 2021, but leaving without a send off was her own choice. And anyway I still think she actually did receive a decent send off in a sneaky way with those matches with Mizuki, the rookies, and finally Arai. I understand why some Itoh fans still aren't happy, but I think Koda knew what would probably end up happening and booked her final few matches pretty well
