The best reasoning I've heard regarding why the viewership is down for wrestling specifically is because people who watch wrestling are more likely willing to be surveyed by Nielsen. Meaning they were always over represented by the sample Nielsen took. Wrestling is probably the only fandom I can think of that actually cares how many milly a show does or does not do. Fans have been conditioned this way since the Monday Night Wars.
