>>19395018The one where he's eating pizza
>>19395018His best kayfabe promo is the one where he’s bleeding all over his jacket and turns face His best shoot promo is cussing out the Wendy’s drive through lady
>>19395018>Motherfucker shitstain Dr. Death vs Steve Austin would've drawn 50 gorillion dollars!
>>19395018Any of the ones he cut on Russo
I like Cornette. More than some but less than others. I respect his place in wrestling history. That being said, I’ve never ever seen him do anything except bore the crowd to death when he is actually doing a promo. Jim was a prop that tag teams would carry out basically. A kind of living Laugh track or Applause Now sign. He would swing a tennis racket and either connect (boo) or miss and hit his own guy (cheer). He was a device the other team could use after the match to get some heat back. His gimmick was even downright confusing outside of southern territories because the nuance of his country club southern rich preppy thing didn’t translate. Outside of the south fans didn’t make that distinction, he’s just coded as southern the same as Col. Parker. Maybe in gen territories there’s some video of him on mic getting nuclear heat but in WWF or WCW every single time he’s on a mic the crowd is checked out
>>19395018Any of his Trump rants, he cooks that fatass

>>19395243Jim not only casually dropping the gamer word but throwing up the HH and saying>Welcome to Knoxville While scarfing Pizza Hut in a pair of Zubaz is without a doubt his finest work. He can’t be taken too seriously though, he also used the word Dat Gumm unironically.
his raw promo on icons and saying that hulk hogan may be a household name but so is garbage and that smells when it gets old too
>>19395243>>19395319Not a his best promo if it didn't draw money.
>>19395018His podcast rant where he completely shits on Austin Aries stuck with me for some reason, pretty fuckin funny

>>19395233I thought he was thw most overrated manager of his era. Ironically his promos are lime todays shitty wrestling he complains about, he says a thousand things as fast as he can wnd hopefully connects with one that might hit the spot
>>19397092absolutely abhorrent subhuman poseur opinionall due respect
>>19397092maybe you should work on your typing skills before you try to cut your own promo dumbass
>>19395018he knows the wrestling business inside and out but as >>19395233 mentions he punches way above his weight for what he actually did. he was a writer when the WWF was teetering on bankruptcy. also he fucking yelled all the time, especially when on commentary. was so annoying.
>>19397019I mean he’s not bad there, but when I said crowd I kind of meant a crowd of people at an event. Not 40 people at a TV taping, with 4 rats in the front row stomping their feet and going crazy trying to get noticed. I know that was an important program and that’s where the hard times promo was shot i think, and if not I remember seeing Superstar Billy Graham and Flair do great stuff there. But it’s a cherry picked room of a few dozen very excited fans.I know that Jim is a hyperbolic guy but he’s always talking about riots about to jump off and nuclear heat but every time I saw him when I was a kid people changed the channel or just zoned out. He was the piss break before women’s wrestling was an everyday thing. I’m thinking of stuff like this.https://youtu.be/MdVXAmLomrA?si=qht9nis34rDqhfxi90 days before Austin 3:16 promo btw so the crowd is literally waiting to blow the roof off the building and get behind something.
>>19395018Tony Khan should bring in Brian Kast as a heel manager, they can have him manage the Young Bucks and call him The Weasel or The WeezeBasically he is a con artist stealing all of their money a la Don King
>>19397556Man if you can name me even 10 decent promos in WWE between 1992 and 1996 you're an idiot, because there aren't that manyOf course Cornette in WWE is completely neutered by the creative and the atmosphere, most of his job was backstage by this point anywayBut you're obviously arguing in bad faith, go watch any of the starrcade he's involved in or great american bashes or whatever really, and listen to the crowds He's literally the voice of WCW on tv between 1986 and 88, he talks more than the announcers and it's not because he can get over in front of 40 people that they put him in that roleYou can pay fucking attention to the Tully/Arn/Horsemen vs Midnight feud and if you can't notice that he's outtalking the 5 best talkers of his era all at once you're an idiot, againPretending that "man Cornette was like, just not that good" is peak poseur attention whoring hot take because it's fucking retarded and anybody who spends 5 seconds researching the topic in good faith can acknowledge that easily
>>19397901I’m saying I like Cornette, and I find the guy funny and I’m in agreement with many of the things he says. I just think people go to sleep when he tries to do crowd work. That was literally the first live video that popped up when I typed Cornette WWF promo (besides those god awful worked shoot segments from 97 that everyone changed the channel for) I thought it was interesting because it’s 90 days before the Austin 3:16 promo and they both involve Jake The Snake. Stone Cold revitalized the company and Cornette was doing warmed over Bobby Heenan to a crowd that didn’t care. Also, wasn’t he on creative at that point? It seems weird to blame creative. I would say it’s no coincidence the state of the business was at its lowest point when he had the greatest amount of influence on it. I get it, he’s got plenty of excuses, he was fat and depressed and hated being in the northeast. I just have never seen the guy being that entertaining outside of getting hit with his own tennis racket. He’s much much better as a wrestling historian and a podcast host.
>>19397977WWF creative was always Vince and Vince alone at the end of the day, he listened to everybody, then did whatever the fuck he wantedCornette mostly booked finishes, was involved with creative for his entire run, that's why he was hired, and he was also running Smokey Mountain during his early days in WWF, which was the reason he went to work there in the first placeI have no idea how you can ignore the obvious fact that WWE in 92-96 is a completely fucking different environment than mid south, world class or Jim Crockett promotions and completely disregard the massive difference in style and verbiage between his work in WWf and outside of it, then keep harping on about the racketYou just don't seem to know what this conversation is about, "this guy is overrated as long as I ignore the best decade of his manager career"Mind boggling shit
hes being pushed because he hated Vince Russo and tried to stop the attitude era from happening (but was overruled by Vince) so the smarks are playing with the idea of letting him run the WWE, which would change nothingit would be as bad as it is now, because its exactly what the smarks always wanted...bland traditional style wrestlingthe only people who could revive WWE are the people who created the greatest era...Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara and Vince McMahon but the smarks are politically opposed to the winning recipie
>>19395018>What's his GOAT promo?Til today? The nose-bleeding promo in the locker room, maybe.Ever? The one that he's about to cut as eulogy to Larry the Dog Brooks-Mendez

>>19395018WAAAAAH WAAAAAAH MAH DOGGY DIED WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH
>>19395018There was this one promo he cut alongside Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji before his match with Lex Luger, talking about how the American dream would be smashed onto rocks forever at the hands of Yokozuna. I've never been able to find it and I've looked at every episode of WWE tv from before that ppv. Also the one he left on Russo's voicemail that got him in trouble in TNA
>>19400655jim cornette himself talks about that one several times
he's most famous for his attitude era promos he did for like 4 weeks unless you're in your 60s
and if you're in your 60s, he's most famous for eating a log of shit with a knife and fork
>>19398198I went through a lot of clips that were readily available. All this shit predates even me and I’m an old boomer. Maybe we are using different metrics or talking about different things. I’m talking specifically about how large crowds react to him cutting promos they just seem to not care one way or another and the only response he ever gets is when he gets beat up after a match. The stuff you’re referring to and saying is so legendary is mostly in pre taped interview segments. The sort of thing Mean Gene would do in WWF and I don’t see much difference between Corny and someone like Captain Lou who was just as competent doing a pre tape. The other stuff is with the audience at the live in-studio show in pre-Turner WCW or it’s him in front of a crowd of a few hundred people in the ring. I get that it was a different era of wrestling. What I’m saying is, he didn’t stop plying his trade. He cut many promos during the New Generation and early Attitude Era in WWF. He had a lot of time with a live mic in front of much larger crowds and his patter isn’t radically different from what I guess is his glory years a decade earlier. The crowds just don’t seem to respond. Obviously the tastes changed and he wasn’t working exclusively in the south. Which is why I said maybe his gimmick and schtick just didn’t translate outside the south east and smaller crowds. There’s plenty of guys in this business who’s proper place was in a certain territory. Some of the ECW guys would blow the roof off the place on the mic as long as it was in Philadelphia in the mid to late 90’s in front of the same die hard fans. I’m not saying he’s an incompetent at what he did, I’m saying I don’t think the majority of wrestling fans ever cared about what the guy did outside of tennis racket related shenanigans. You could have muted his mic and there’s not much difference in the crowd response.
>>19395018that one where he said the opponent was inbred and he started twitching
>>19401622That’s why no one can tell you what the GOAT James E. Cornette promo is or they say it’s some rant he went on about Russo on an answering machine. They’re all basically the same nasally old timey insult delivered at warp speed. If you asked what the GOAT Superstar Billy Graham promo was everyone could tell you it was in front of a sold out MSG with 20k people on their feet spitting lines that still get quoted in pop culture today. That was 10 years before the peak of Corny’s career telling a white hot crowd of 600 people that he’d rather kiss a pig with lipstick than Tully Blanchard’s sister.
>>19401731>That’s why no one can tell you what the GOAT James E. Cornette promo iswhat is the GOAT bobby the brain heenan promo?what is the GOAT gary hart promo?what is the GOAT jimmy hart promo?honestly dont think you understand what a manager was before the attitude era. back then most wrestlers and managers didnt stand in the ring giving 15- or 20-minute promos. the promos were usually very short and quick usually hyping coming to a certain city or complaining about something. 95% of the old school managers were terrific talkers and were always entertaining on the mic. thats why they were managers
Reminder that Cornette has tons of amazing promos he randomly cut on OVW. Eugene uploaded a bunch of them, not sure if they are still up, but he would kill it on the mic for the most random shit
>>19401937>what is the GOAT bobby the brain heenan promo?>what is the GOAT gary hart promo?>what is the GOAT jimmy hart promo? You tell me.
>>19402041I honestly don't know for Gary Hart, but Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Cornette etc. have way too many good promos, same as Dusty, Lawler etc.Off the top of my head for Jimmy Hart it would be the Lawler horse promo he got shoot heemed for, but he probably has ones that might top it.
